How to tell if neighbours own or rent?

Our neighbours own their own home and have both front and back gardens full of junk, 2 cars and a caravan! We also own our home and until recently had an old banger parked in the drive. I'm also new to gardening (just had lawns before) so am guilty of allowing the shrubs, etc to overgrow. My husband is at home all day as he works nights.0

I would like to know why you want to know? Does it make any difference?0

I have tried looking on Rightmove and many of the properties in my street haven't sold in the last 15 years. I can't believe the same people have all lived in all of them for that long so it got me wondering who owns and who doesn't.
I moved last year, after living in the same house for almost forty years. My neighbours had lived there 30 years and 29 years. The two slightly further up had both lived there longer than us.
All of us owned our houses.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

The houses probably ARE privately owned. The people who live in them can then rent them from the owner.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I can't see why you're interested either, OP?
My late parents owned their house for 49 years - till they both went into a nursing home in 2012 - and had been mortgage-free for over 40 years.
We also own outright - aged 49 - and have quite often been guilty of gardens full of rubbish/houses looking rather unkempt as we are serial renovators of period properties and as we DIY it often takes us a while to get things looking ship-shapeNeighbours have never complained as they realise we are improving what was previously an even worse eye-sore, lol, and I guess they realise we don't rent, but TBH I couldn't really care less what they think!
Regarding cars though - where we used to live (rural Wilts) it was quite usual to drive a Land Rover Defender (as we did), but when we moved here (village, but only semi-rural) a few neighbours looked down their noses and one even made a derogatory remark about our choice of transport. Most of our neighbours have new(ish) sports cars, Range Rovers and one even has a Maserati so to them we looked like the poor relations!
Btw OP, I know many FTBs are older these days, but I don't think you can automatically assume that someone in their thirties (as per your opening post) has not owned their home for 15 years - DS was 21 when he was a FTB, so although at 27 he is now in his second home, he could quite easily have owned that first place for 15 years by the time he reached 36Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Next door to me is a mother and son. She's in her 80s, and was born in the house. He's in his 50s and was born there, too. Neither of them have ever lived anywhere else. I have no idea how long the house has been in the family.
They don't own it.0 -
Let me correct you:
"Nice car, smart clothes, leave at 8am for work, back at six, well-kept garden..."
Probably up to eyeballs in debt, mortgaged and living salary to salary
.
"Older car, supermarket clothes, only out half the day, grass uncut..."
Sounds like most millionaires I know0 -

But what is the problem?
Why do you feel the need to know?
Who actually cares who owns a house as long as you have good neighbours and live in a street where everyone takes pride in their home
If you are so bothered , move to a detached in the middle of a field like I did
Mind, the farmer rents a lot of his fields........0 -
Knock on the doors and ask them?
I'm sure they'll be only to willing to tell you...
I'm always willing to say - only trouble is I usually lie! I've found that saying you rent is the quickest way of getting rid of anyone selling anything that requires permission of the owner!
Last lot who knocked and were selling conservatories, and didn't believe me. He said, what a big house like this? (It's not what I'd call big - it's a 3 bed link detached!). I said yes, you can rent even bigger houses than this! I think he had OP's blinkered view of the difference between owners and renters ;-)0
