The answer to that would be to make sure your OH takes a bit more notice and checks his tyres regularly. ;)

It would also be worth finding out where all the paperwork is so you can check things like the date the tyres were replaced. That's assuming the paperwork is in one place....

You can also check the age of the tyres on the sidewall but tread is the more important thing here by the sounds of it

Phone around for a specialist Tyre Fitting place, not a garage. Ask for a discount for all 4 tyres and write down each answer. A local "chain" is usually best, but I don't see the problem people have with Kwikfit: I have had tyres changed there for many years without a problem, my local Kwikfit have never tried to sell me anything extra, just advised me about any problems that may come up. The benefit of Kwikfit is that they buy their tyres in bulk. Don't accept any attempt to sell you anything further, just say you will talk to your OH when you get home, all you want is tyres.

Before you phone round, take a look at the side of the tyres. There will be digits and letters around the sidewalls, arranged radially. There may be slashes - / - between them. Write them down and tell the place you are phoning:
    * make & model, engine size of car.
    * the series of numbers and letters as they appear on the sidewall of the tyre.

This has the advantage of making them think you are aware of what you want. Not wanting to talk down to you here, just want to help you appear as more than the "little woman" if you know what I mean. This is how I taught my daughter to approach the same problem. As an ex-workshop foreman, I know very well how some mechanics can be with women.

    Good luck!

^ Just for the avoidance of doubt, this is satire.

    I hope.

Black circles send the tyres to your local fitters, you can be waiting days for an appointment.

Just pump the tyre up it's obviously got a slow puncture, if it goes down quickly fit the spare.

If the tyres had been marginal at the MOT you'd have got an advisory.

I find it hard to believe anyone can be so naïve that they don't notice when a tyre is bald?
