so I connected a USB cable , in files I can see my phone but cannot read or see anything on it , when connecting thre phone just goes to charging
I have spent some time googling , but got nowhere , any ideas?

I don't use Mint, but the Arch Linux wiki has some tips that might help.

well after pondering about all evening , I cracked it !!!
so for posterity and google search the answer
Samsung Galaxy : Settings > About device > Build number
when you see "build number" starts to click consecutively on it until you see the message "You are now a developer"
after you are a developer go to developer option, enable Developing and check that "Debug USB" has "the green V " .
after you do this steps, connect your phone, and you should see it as a normal drive
after a lot of googling I found the answer!!!!!
I also solved a duplicated h/drive problem , multiple partition ex windows deive that ended up as 2 drives in linux Gparted to the rescue
will fine tune the bluetooth laterSave a Rachael

You could use Airdroid or Foldersync to avoid all problems with cables, connections etc.
Personally, I use Foldersync to sync to my Owncloud server, but it also supports FTP, SFTP, SMB/CIFS, WEBDAV and many cloud services. I never need to connect a cable to my phone, just set up a folder pair and schedule a daily sync or put a widget on your screen and sync manually.0 -
I dont want to sync with a cloud , I just want to take a photo off my phone and copy it to my computer?
can I have a owncloud for xmas if I ask nicely ,to the nice father christmas at the coop this saturday morning

I use "ES FileExplorer"
If you either set up "SSH" OR share a folder using "Samba" on your Linux machine, you can use the app to browse your local wifi network and then Cut/copy & paste items to and from your phone to the PC.Laters

That's why I also mentioned FTP, SFTP and Samba/CIFS. Just add a SFTP account for your PC to the app and create a folder pair for your phone/PC. That's it, no more cables.0 -

Instead of using Samba/CIFS use SFTP with your PC's credentials.0 -
