What a choice - Plusnet or Vodafone - two of the worst companies for customer service.
Sadly I think that is a fair comment. BT are terrible too. Had better luck with Sky. Even talktalk were easier.....
  • Well I'm still undecided who to go with haha. The house move is getting closer though so need to make a decision soon I suppose.

I've ruled Vodafone out after the reviews I've read on here. PlusNet seem good value at £32.50 a month for upto 76mb but again after some of the reviews I've read on here and elsewhere about poor speeds and customer service etc that's put me off them too.

BT current offer of Infinity1 at £27.99 is appealing but with the line capable of 70mb I originally set out wanting the fastest I could get but cant justify the £44.99 for infinity2. What are BT like for reliability, i.e would I see anywhere 52mb on infinity1 or are they another company that don't deliver what they say like im seeing with PlusNet reviews etc. As I say the BT website says its capable of 70mb max.

I switched to last Friday (18 Nov) from BT Infinity 1 (52Mb/s) to Plusnet Fibre Unlimited (38Mb/s) [@ £27.50/month plus £70 Topcashback - now £13 Topcashback)].

No problems encountered - I'm even still using my existing BT Home Hub 5A (just changed the broadband settings to username@plusdsl.net and Plusnet password) .

Previously been with O2, Sky and BT and luckily never had any issues with any of them (except for increased prices once the introductory periods were over).

IME BT do deliver what they say and my downstream was consistently the full 52Mb/s as promised.

  • Plusnet have half price Fibre Extra (76Mbps) until Tuesday. If you use their line rental saver (£185.88 upfront for 12 months) then you're only £10 a month for the first 12 months then £27.99 a months for the remaining 6 of the contract!
I've been with them for years and their speeds are spot on what they estimated. Telephone support can be hit or miss with waiting times though their Live Chat always seems to be connected in a few minutes when I've needed it.

From what I hear Vodafone broadband is fine but you're tied in to using their router which has been causing issues for some people. Plusnet let you use whatever hardware you want though their free router seems to do a decent job in most cases.

I think they both have a £50 connection fee so there's little difference there.

The down side of that deal is having to decide whether to pay for a 2nd year of line rental saver, or to pay full price line rental for months 13-18.

    Absolutely! :-D
Even paying full price for the final 6 months is still around £30 cheaper over the contract than Vodafone's offering.
