Possibly the wireless adapter has got a manual setting that suits the work wifi. Try setting the IP4 configuration to "Automatic".

Switch the router off and all the devices that connect to it then back on again in turn as it might be an IP issue.

  • it's also possible for a policy to be applied to the laptop by work, in setting a web proxy server so that all traffic in the web browser is recorded and monitored and malicious software blocked. Without a connection back to the office the laptop will almost seem as if its not connected to the internet because its trying to find the proxy server at work.

is this a corporate laptop or your own?
  • Hello, update,
It is my own laptop, ( given to me by father on law, it was his home laptop )
Connected automatically to work open internet, I just do my own stuff on it , not work related
When it's at home , I get in the network and Sharing tab
    My laptop _ unidentified network _ x_internet

It says connected to sky, with speed , duration signal quality excellent,
In properties it says , connect auto
    In security it says wpa2_personal
    Encryption wars
And network security key I entered the router password

So it all looks like it's connected. But no actual internet

    Driving me mad
    Any more thoughts please

open up a command prompt as admin.

(hit start, type cmd, RIGHT click the black box and click run as administrator)

then in the black box that appears, type the following, pressing enter after each line.

    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns

    See how you get on
  • Just tried above
    It says
1.failed requires elevation, no user specified settings to reset
    2.requires elevation
3.No operation can be performed on wireless or local network whilst media content disconnected
    4.requires elevation

All means nothing to me sorry,
