How much of a hassle is switching?

I rang up BT as I was sent a letter and told that unless I renewed my contract, I would have to start paying for BT Sport.

I don't watch BT Sport, so this wasn't an incentive to me.

They have offered me
£18.99 line rental
£5.00 broadband

so, £23.99 in total.

Snags are it is a two year deal (but still I get broadband for a fiver for 2 years, it's not too bad?) and the fact that it's bog standard broadband and not infinity, but I don't think I need any more than that.

Is this a good deal? Is it worth the hassle of switching for not that much saving?

It's a decent deal. If the service works and you're happy then stick. The grass isn't always greener

I did not have much hassle switching. Finished up on fibre unintentionally!

  • You can could try haggling for a lower price. Sky via uswitch offers for £22.40 for 12 months.
BT itself is offering £23.49 with a £75 prepaid card but that's is most likely for new customers.

Yeah, I seen that offer for new customers. I might try and haggle, but have heard they are not the best for this.

Another reason I wouldn't mind switching is everything is in my brother's name who moved out of my house in April and BT do not seem to be able to get their heads around this!

I'm scared that something will go wrong with switching though (I read a thread about breach of contract or something with BT) and the idea of no broadband and two small children with no YouTube is terrifying!!!

This method almost guarantees there'll be downtime.

Two problems with this: If the account is cancelled as opposed to switched it may not be possible to keep the same telephone number. The other problem with cancelling is that a fibre connection in the cabinet may be given to someone on the waiting list with the result that the cabinet will be full and in that case the only available broadband connection will be ADSL.

Better to switch and get the account owners permission to do that and have the account in your own name.

Living testament to this, had no issues switching from AOL to O2 (ADSL) and then Plusnet (fibre). All switched as planned and no issues.

But i have just switched to Vodafone fibre from Plusnet and they lost my phone number which ive had for well over 20 years.
    Luckily sorted within 24 hours.

But my speed is slower now than it was with Plusnet, even though they said it would be faster.

I need to see how it compares and it seems they have a limit on their unlimited downloads. (300GB) so heavy users may find they hit that limit.

I have on occasion hit more than that in a single month with Plusnet and no issues, but its just uploading/downloading family stuff which is mostly done and i can spread it out anyway.

With all the online streaming going 4k etc though it maybe an issue for some.

Thanks everyone. I am just waiting for them to call back now and they will give me this deal. Apparently, it is now my name on account and not my brother's.

I should probably post elsewhere for my next question, but I have Sky TV which I pay £22.40 a month for (am stuck in contract till April).

But because of trying to renew my contract for Phone and Broadband with BT, I have been on their website. Can I really get TV for £10 a month (I want recordable and the Disney channels)? Wow, sounds better than what I am getting now.

    OR

Should I change my phone and broadband to Sky now and just have everything with them and be done with it?
