Its going to be slow mind, depending on what version of bluetooth the OP has.
If its old, it could be as little as 3mbps

And obviously bluetooth has shorter range than wifi

The latest "Patch Tuesday" updates from Microsoft were getting in the way of things, so I bought an all-you-can-eat 24 hour internet package for my 3G Dongle/SIM and downloaded 1.3GB of Microsoft updates (over a 200Kbp/s 2G network!) and now, magically, my wifi card in my PC has started working again (that is to say, it can now see available wifi networks, whereas yesterday/last week it couldn't).

It looks like the MS update addressed a known issue with wifi :
"Microsoft update KB3200970 Addressed issue with the system tray showing no Wi-Fi connection even when Wi-Fi is present."

So I guess this is no longer an issue. It would be nice to know whether it is possible to tether an Android phone which is connected to a wifi network, though, in case I have to do it in the future (edit: I'll have a read of that androidpit article - thanks). btw, I changed the phone setting to "Connected as MTP" but Network Connections and Sharing Center> Change Adapter Settings still can't see the phone...

    alls well that ends, etc.

    thanks all :)

My experience with multiple versions of Android is that tethering only works when connected to a mobile network, if the phone is connected to wifi then tethering becomes inactive.

I use my Samsung Note 2 (Android 4.4.2) on a regular basis to tether on USB over WiFi to allow work to remote into bits of kit whilst I'm on site.
As a test, that's what I'm doing now to post this.

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I'll certainly concede that I could be wrong, [STRIKE]but your example is different to what the OP is trying to do (which is not USB tethering)[/STRIKE].

Edit: I take it back, I misremebered what the OP is doing, and they do indeed have a USB cable (although it isn't working).
