USA Trip 2017

I received some great advice earlier this year for my road trip in California (but starting in Vegas), which was the best thing I have ever done, so thought I'd try my luck again.
I plan to go back next year and do a different route. I flew Dublin to Vegas and returned LA to London. I live in Bournemouth, England. Flew Southampton to Dublin.
I want to go to Vegas, LA, Palm Springs, San Diego and Orange County beaches.
The cheapest flights, most economical and convenient are direct return to LA from London. Ideally I'd like to start with 3/4 nights in Vegas. So then a flight from LA to Vegas would be required. Any idea how much I can get a flight for? I'd avoid the cost of additional driver fees by hiring a car upon return to LA as opposed to Vegas and driving from there and dropping off in California.
Any suggested proposals? The same flight itinerary as this year is about £550. The return to LA being about £100 cheaper.
Dates are 15th June and return on 1st July.
Thanks and hope this makes sense.

OW hire car fees should be Zero from Nevada to Cal
Flights can be about £30 single.-Though there may be baggage fees.0 -
you can drive Vegas to LA in half a day, its across the desert which is a bit different, a slight detour you can view the famous Aircraft Graveyard.
Don't have too high hopes about LA though, its probably one of my least favorite US cities.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Thanks for the prompt responses. The additional driver fee though at around $13 per day for almost two weeks adds up. If I started the hire in California and not Vegas this fee would be waived so just trying to save a charge. But then it's the hassle of getting to Vegas from LA as soon as I land. No easy answer.0

BA often run an ex-Dublin business class sale from mid December to mid January.
My recent trips have provided west coast flights and car hire for c£1,000 each. A nice treat.0 -
Ive done this trip and route a few times now. We always drive, there are no one way fees between california and nevada when hiring a car.
We are planning on doing the trip again next year. Cant wait!0 -
Some of the 'gold' rental package can be very cost effective, with extra driver/s and a tank of fuel being added for relatively little money.0

Thanks all. Looks like I'll fly in to Vegas then. Hoping prices come down over next 8 weeks or so. Either black Friday or January sales I will bag a bargain.0

keep having a shuftie at BA Holidays as well. Some times, their combi flight+ car hire and or hotel packages can be very attractively priced.0 -
Thanks for the suggestion Murphy. With BA I can get direct flights to Vegas from London and returning LA to London with car hire for £792pp. This seems like a very good price. I am going to keep my eye on it in the hope an offer becomes available or price drops slightly.0

So, an update, through Sky Scanner I can get direct flights to Vegas from London and returning from Los Angeles to London direct for £405. This is a huge saving on what I paid this year. Do I take the plunge or wait? Prices are dropping every day.0
