Flights cancelled due to illness

Hi, I wondered if anyone has had experience of claiming back the money from flights cancelled due to unforeseen illness? I broke my foot and needed an operation and was therefore unable to fly. Wizzair have offered me 50% of my ticket price back, but I was under the impression they were obliged to refund in full (this is what their general conditions of carriage imply, as it was cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances).

I wonder whether I should be grateful they even got back to me, cut my losses and accept their offer (apparently they often don't acknowledge these kinds of claims), but this feels like giving up.

Does anyone have experience of this kind of thing, and able to offer any advice?

Thank you!

Jen

You breaking your foot is not the unforeseen circumstances they are referring to in the t&cs.

You have had a goodwill payment. Your travel insurance is for circumstances that occurred to you.

All I can find is refund of fare - €70 fee if more than 14 days before the flight or refund of fare - €90 + additional charges if under 14 days. A full refund applies to their cancellation.

This is exactly the sort of thing that travel insurance is for.
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Their terms are unusually generous for the airline industry.
