AOL Contract Dispute

Hi Guys,

Hope this is the right place to post this.

I've been on AOL broadband for almost 2 years. Last year I moved home in March and AOL said that the contract had to be renewed. So it was 12 months again. This February, I upgraded to 2Mbps and then cancelled the order in 3 days of the 7 day cool off period. Now i went to cancel my account and they say that its a new contract again because I changed from gold to platinum and then back to gold.

I called up AOL 6 weeks back as i wanted to move to buldog and at that time they told me that I could move. So i placed my order with bulldog. Today they are saying that I cannot cancel it. When I asked them to check the logs for my last call where I was told that I could cancel, the guy told me that there's no call 6 weeks back.

What's the reality here and what would you suggest to me?

Thanks
Terry

Sorted out. They did cancel my platinum order in the 7 day cool off period, but did not put in their system to cancel it somehow. So I was being billed for gold, AOL showed gold but I was still receiving platinum. Talked to them for 48 minutes, repeatedly asked the help desk to speak to a supervisor and final got to him. He investigated the case, and tried to covince me that when i upgrade or downgrade its a new 12 months contract. But i told him that the 7 day cool off period meant that a new contract would not begin for 7 days and he agreed. Finally got it cancelled and now on with bulldog 4 Mbps.

Thanks for all those who viewed this thread.

I've never heard of upgrading/downgrading your package meant you were on another 12 month contract?

I'm with telewest and have constantly upgraded and downgraded and not been subject to a 12month contract. Now you moving house would probably mean a 12month contract though.

If it wasn't already sorted I would have suggested you read the t&c and see if it states anywhere in it about upgrading/downgrading involves being subject to another 12month contract again but never mind as you're sorted.
