Been off work sick nearly a year and resigning - a good idea?

I'm too late surely as I've sent the confirmation letter to them now. Felt pressed to continually go to meetings and my mental health was suffering doing that. So I came to the hardest decision, which was to leave.

Can I not even get ESA now I've done this now then? :/

It depends on if the decision maker decides to sanction you or not.
If sanctioned your claim will be open and progressing to medical but you won't get any money for the length of the sanction, about 12 weeks.

Aren't sanctions for voluntarily resigning on JSA only?

Is this the job you'd only been in a few months when you became ill? If so it's no wonder the employer is pushing you, you've been off well over a year, I'm only surprised they've not dismissed you before now.

Sorry if that's harsh but if you're not ready to go back now it's fair to assume you never will. Your ESA will not be affected by resigning, focus on getting better and finding something more suitable.
  • I think you'll find it was over a year sick - I remember replying to this poster around Sept of 2015. And I think I'm being generous.

Over a year not to have saved a penny.

Many have been christened on here for less.

Since I first ever posted to you Brother in a wheelchair - returned to work at 9 months for money worries.
  • In a post in September you said that you'd been "let go" by your employer. Can you please clarify how long you've been in your job and how long you've been off sick? Your posts are quite contradictory and members can only give useful advice if you're clear with the facts.

I don't understand how it can be 'the hardest decision' to resign when you haven't been into work for well over a year?

In that time I would have thought you'd probably forgotten all about work.

  • People are genuinely giving their time and expertise to try to help, but there are parts of this ladies "story" that just don't add up with her earlier threads. It's impossible to give accurate, helpful advice without clear facts. I think there's background here that's relevant but just not being shared.

The bottom line is don't post on a public forum if you can't handle people wishing to clarify information in order to help, that for your own reasons you consider to challenging or critical.
