I'd try white vinegar and/or bleach first. Even if it stains, it surely looks better than black mould? Tea tree oil works well.

Plain bleach will wipe the stains and kill the spores- for now

You have to find out why you are getting mould and eliminating that

Usually air flow and water in the air
  • I've found bleach is fine for getting surface mould off hard surfaces like plastic, but it doesn't work long-term for me on walls. Nothing works as well as the HG really. I used to work in a hardware shop years ago and the HG is what the professionals used to come in for.

I've just got around today to using the HG Mould Spray I bought a couple of weeks ago at Lakeland, on the sealant in my shower. Despite its claims, and 3 applications, it has done diddly squat in getting the black stains out. Not even a change of colour to brown which it said it may do on the instructions. Not impressed in the slightest.

Did you leave it to soak in? I spray liberally, check 30 minutes later and spray again if needed then leave it to soak for a few hours (if needed). I don't bother to rinse it off between applications. If the mould is really bad it can take several hours/applications, over a few days, but HG has always worked for me eventually.

I do rinse/wipe it between applications if using HG on walls or ceilings because I've found it's more effective that way.

I followed the instructions and left for 30 mins and washed off, then another 30 mins before washing off again. Must have left the last lot over an hour, so they had over 2 hours. The only thing that changed colour was a towel I dried the bottom of my slippers on after stepping into the shower.

I'm not good at reading instructions. :o

I probably read them when I first used the stuff, many years ago, but that's lost in the mists of my memory. Now I just spray, shut the door and open windows, then check a while later and spray again if needed. I've left the HG on for several hours, many times, with no adverse effects on the grout or sealant. I'd think that rinsing would leave water on the sealant, so will dilute the subsequent application of HG.

  • I have had some success with plain thin bleach dipped in cotton wool pads and then left on the grouting for a few hours.

I've had another go this morning, squirted the stuff on and left it all day. I will report back!

I never read instructions either. They're just blah blah blah. Mostly.

Good ventilation is the key. I hate bleach and use it as a last resort. I used tea tree oil, rubbing alcohol and grapefruit oil on my sash window frames last year...it seems to have worked, they look okay and they smell nice when I remember to spray them with the potion!

Dehumidifiers are most excellent for drying out areas. I was trying to work out why they're so popular nowadays...it's because they're sort of affordable. They really work though...apart from those pound shop jobbies.
