err, one might think so but I inherently do not always believe what I read via Google searches.
Consider first response: use bicarb, salt, vinegar, Vaseline, car wax......
Do they all work? One after the other? All at once?:D

One or all those might work, maybe non, possibly make things worse!

Now on this forum there are a lot of knowledgeable people so perhaps an expert restorer or carpenter or just a DIYer with the right experience might help!

...but thanks for the suggestion anyway:beer:

......and then can I add fag ash, butter, mayonnaise, toothpaste, hair dryer, warm iron, oh the list goes on......as do the reports of success, failure and damage!

I don't know if this is of any help but years ago I used "brasso" (a yellowy liquid for cleaning brass ornaments) that came in a small tin cannister.

I use it to remove marks left by cups on Teak wood.
Just put a tiny bit on a cloth and gently rubbed in an then buffed up with a duster.

Now I cannot vouch for this as I used it on different wood and very small areas but was amazed it worked.

Could you try it on the underside of the wood first to see how it reacts?

On a secondhand pine coffee table with lots of white water marks I followed advice on the net. I placed a cotton cloth over the stains and then ironed them. Totally counter intuitive, but it worked.

    Thanks all.
Given I do not have access to the underside (built in window boards) I might try the iron method first.

Just for feedback and progress report.....

Tried the iron method. Improvement with minor stains. Bigger ones no great effect, will try Sanding lightly now,

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • +1 for Brasso. My great aunt was a housekeeper in a big house (like Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey), and she swore by it for heat marks on French polished tables.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
