I did this breakdown for a different thread.

No car - taxi to bus station (£4 each way - pre metering, it has gone up recently!) =£1840.00 pa / 153.33 pcm. That's just for work related transport - no social or shopping. The bus station is a 35 - 40 min walk but given that I already commute 90 mins each way that's not really an option IMHO.

With car - total costs £1949.50 pa / £162.46 pcm for all motoring costs

If I used public transport to get to work it would cost me £63 a month. I have now used a bicycle for the last 10 years that cost £150 off ebay. Works out about £2 a month all inclusive (including odd tyres, new chains and brake pads etc) . I could never go back to commuting by car. Could OP not commute by bicycle? It's much more fun.

Not in a howling gale and pouring rain it isn't.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Nephew is 24 and his insurance is almost £4k, although paying by installments so it maybe over £4k with that, close enough though.

A buspass and taxi fares will be far cheaper than the car, but he wanted one and wanted the one the insurance companies didnt think he should have and charged him accordingly.

The post above is optimistic, depreciation is the biggest expense but fails to give that figure?

My car costs less than 50p a month, not including almost everything that costs money.

I didn't give the depreciation figure because I don't know what it is. However, if you are just looking at running costs, then my figures are accurate - I got the impression that this was what the OP was interested in. I also didn't include positives such as convenience - if I were comparing having a car to taking the bus, how much should I include for not having to wait several hours and only being able to travel once a day (and only to specific places).

All down to attitude. And decent clothing, of course.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.
