Doing a late notification of a car accident when it was dealt with privately?

Remember that over the next 3 years he will be getting encouragement to claim from the cold callers. You don't know how likely he is to be swayed by the "promise" of an ambulance chaser that "money has been reserved" to pay him compensation for the whiplash.
Both of you are supposed to report the incident - as the "innocent" party he has less to worry about by reporting this than you do (as you look to have been to blame)!0 -
So, what do you do? If you don't report it and he makes a claim you are in trouble (I don't think he will, seemed like a decent chap). If you do then it will get him in trouble. Is the answer to ask him if he wants me to report it?
You should have weighed up these risks when dealing with it privately! If you thought there was a risk of a PI claim there was no point paying privately in the first place.
Speak to him is your best bet.0 -

If neither have reported why would he get these0 -
Recently OH had been scraped by tractor and was agreed other would pay. He then ignored us so contacted the firm that owned the tractor. I expected them to just pay (£600) but they went to their insurers so I notified mine. They just took details, said come back if any problems. Had letter last week saying they had cleared it from the system as we had not contacted them. have just got a quote for DD with us as named drivers and cost had not gone up.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I don't know if he's reported it! And it was my fault. What have I got to lose by reporting it as notification only- say it was my fault what happened- job done. Surely? That should be it, shouldn't it?0

Because most of these cold callers offering to get you compensation following a road accident are fishing - along the lines of " we are ringing regarding the accident you were involved in"
(Or get information from other sources than insurers eg. Hospital staff/ ambulance staff/ breakdown recovery/body shops etc)0 -

Yes that would be the end of it (for now - make sure they know you have dealt with it and no claim is involved from the other side)
At renewal having this on your history may affect the new premium, though shop around for the best deal anyway, and you will have to disclose the incident to any new insurer you go to0 -

Now 7 weeks ago. The guy was complaining about his neck at the time, but obviously hasn't done anything and is a nice guy. I don't want to screw him. I hope me notifying my insurance company won't affect him negatively?
So I call up and report the incident- date, his reg and say notification only? Do I explain the incident and that it was my fault? What do I say? And also, how do I explain leaving it for 7 weeks?0 -
As previously posted, this delay (jumped from 5 to 7 weeks in 3 days??) won't cause a problem.
Just explain the circs for information only and tell them you have sorted the issue privately with the third party. (You will have to tell them you accepted the blame)
(Don't mention the neck issue!)
You can always inform the guy of your action if you want to (though its his call whether or not he has reported this to his insurer)0
