well after being a user of internet explorer from way back past the freeserve days , I,ve had enough if it.


I know there are lots of browsers , but before installing all of them , I thought I might be able to thin them down by asking which would suit me best


the way I have IE setup (for many yrs) is with my favorites , grouped into folders and listed down the LEFT hand side , not the right , not across the top , I also like a google search bar and google (plain) page for home


I don,t want anything that resembles an offshoot from a mobile phone (microsoft edge)


please help me pin down a new browser as ir,s days are numbered

Just download the usual and see which you prefer.

Google Chrome
Opera
Firefox
etc...

ok thanks , having tried (perhaps) earlier versions of some of those I know for a fact that at least one of those has favorites across the top, NOT down the left hand side


I was hoping to pin this down better than 4 suggesstions + the word ETC

There's very few choices for large mainstream browsers these days, Chrome is the main browser and many of the other browsers are effectively rebadged versions of it such as Opera and Vivaldi. Firefox is the other although it seems to be fading after Chrome has taken the limelight.

I use Vivaldi and it does meet your requirements, its bookmarks are on the left, it has a separate search box at the top and you can set Google as your homepage.

It might help if you explain what it is about Internet Explorer 11 that you've had enough of.

on 3 different machines , inc reloads ,the latest version of IE refuses to close tabs fully , and just leaves a blank page that runs at almost 100% , I cannot (for example) open a new tab to do some research on say one of the 4 example browsers given above then return to this tab to comment


incidents started appearing about a mth ago and despite Microsoft updates to "fix explorer" issues , is still there , almost as if they are trying to kill off IE and move people to the horrible tablet style edge browser .

ok , trying firefox on a spare box , have set bookmarks to left , have got google toolbar , however gmail does not work ?

no , thank you for your reply , however I was asking for a browser that did the jobs I required , not a list of every browser available
