It is normal for the battery to get warm when charging, however, if you feel it is excessively so the take the battery out and check for any sign of blowing ( bulging of the sides), also plug the phone without the battery into the USB and check the voltage cross the two outer battery terminals with a multimeter, it should be no more than 5v.
Furthermore if the battery is completely flat it is unlikely that it will charge from the USB anyway as the computer cannot charge what it cannot see.
Its safest all round to use the correct charger, if the battery exploded, be prepared to redecorate the room

the battery doesnt get hot at all, but the metal bit (behind the back cover, where the camera lens/usb port is) does.
i have tried a v220 using the same usb cable and that doesnt get warm at all like the l60 -

Then you have a hardware problem, sounds like your zener has packed up or has a dead short, reflow/replace zener (near charging connector at the camera end). If that fails check the charging IC (PA) and reflow / replace if necessary.
