Strike on day i have ticket for?

Does anyone know what I am supposed to do?

I bought online an Advance ticket for 24th December, Hastings to Victoria, and I just saw that the RMT has called a strike for that day.

There is another line up to London, but it's a different train operator, plus my ticket is for a specific train on a specific day.

I have no idea what the rules are on strike days.

Can anyone advise?

As someone living and having to deal on a regular basis with this ongoing and unnecessary Spat between Southern Railways and the union, welcome to my world!

As the poster above says, check their website for the most up to date information a few days before you travel. Some routes still operate as train crews seem to ignore the union line and turn up and operate some trains. The Hastings line is being heavily impacted but they do seem to keep a regular service running to Brighton. It helps that Thameslink operate trains on this line as well.

With all other strike action days other rail operators within the impacted region take your ticket. As do bus companies.

Ticket restrictions tend to be lifted and you can use your ticket on any reasonable re routed service. They also seem to declassify 1st class to help overcrowding, although on 24th December I wouldn't think they would be that busy.

Hopefully the union will call off this unnecessary action which childishly boils down to who opens the doors on the trains!

Worse comes to worse, you can get a refund on your ticket. Again the website tells you how to claim.

Gosh, I am gobsmacked at your lack of correct information about the strike. You don't understand the reasons at all. It's like saying Brexit is all about whether we have straight or bendy bananas.

But that isn't what this thread was about. I just have to get to London, that's all, not prompt union-bashers.

there is a fair amount of info on their website.

Thanks Caz but even that isn't 100% clear as it talks about using their ticket on the same route but with another operator. Well, no other operator runs that route of Hastings-Eastbourne-Gatwick- Victoria. I shall have to go via a completely different route and with a non-refundable advance ticket.

there is information on the website about getting a refund

Can I get a refund on a ticket I’ve already bought?
If you decide not to travel on a strike day, please return your ticket to the original retailer for a full refund. No admin fee will be charged.

If you purchased your ticket from a Southern station or from the Southern website then the station can arrange the refund for you
If you purchased your tickets from another train operator, sales office or website, you should return your refund application to them for processing

OP, you'd possibly do better in the Public Transport
than in Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning

You bought a ticket for a train operated by Southern.

The fact that it is a strike day is irrelevant: the service is so bad that no strike could possibly make any difference.

Contact your MP to ask them to give the franchise to a competent train operator instead -- or, preferably, to renationalise the route so that you could have a service like that provided by the late-lamented East Coast.
