VHS to DVD transfer help

I've set up a DVD/VHS combo that I borrowed from a friend so that I can transfer videos onto DVD of my kids when they were little. It's all set up using a scart from recorder to TV and videos and DVDs can play no problem on my telly. The problem Im having is accessing the set up menu on the recorder so that I can change…

It obviously won't find a TV signal, but I'm wondering if the set-up is trying to find the time from an analogue signal, or trying to auto-tune.

Interesting - so there's no solution to either, as the OP can't enter setup to disable auto-tune, and an analogue RF stage won't gather the time, post digital switch-over?
