Halfordss Autocentre

Hi,

Can someone here can help – I had a slight problem with how Halfords changed my tyres. Below is an email from myself to Halfords and also their reply …Am I right to be a little angry, or should I just accept their explanation?

A couple of weeks ago I got a nail in my tyre so I booked myself into your (Hove) Halfords Autocentre for a repair at £25. I dropped the car off and within a couple of hours received a call informing me my tyre couldn’t be repaired so I’d need a replacement, plus my other tyres were worn and would also need replacement. I’m no expert so agreed for the tyres to be replaced for just under £300 which I believed to be expensive, plus earlier I had looked on your web site and there were several quality/well known with a cost of £70 per tyre, or there about, so I assumed that would be the products used on my car. The garage said they could also offer free alignment, which I’m not sure I notice the change to be honest.

My problem is that I when I ‘ve looked at the tyres I’ve noticed a brand (Fullrun Tyres) I’ve never heard of and after further research found out these tyres are very low quality, which numerous negative feedback, which I can understand with the feel of my car. I got given a receipt/invoice but again this gives me no breakdown of cost …I.e. tyre costs, labour – doesn’t even mention the type of tyre. The tyres themselves look to be £50 odd quid on-line, yet I’ve been charges nearly £75 per tyre which I’m a little confused about.

Can someone email me a true invoice for the products and services I received from Halfords – I understand I could have went back to the autocentre, but I would prefer the head office to deal with my request.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your recent experience at our Hove Autocentre. I am very sorry to hear that this experience has caused some disappointment and it is deeply regretful that we did not meet your expectations.

I have spoken with the Autocentre who have informed me that they have a tyre warehouse next to the Autocentre in which they source tyres they need for that day from which are more expensive these can range from budget to high range tyres. If the Autocentre had time to order in tyres they may have been cheaper.

I apologise if the Autocentre did not inform you of this.

I think you needed to take more interest in what they were fitting before you agreed to the work. I don't think you've got much to complain about as Halfords have fitted the tyres for the cost quoted.

Did they tell you a brand when they rang you?

And in the future I will sure ask such question, however I wouldn't expect to be charged more money for lesser a product (compared to their web site) from such company.

do not forget that most of the "online" tyre companies also charge a fitting/disposal charge , at your suggested garage , this can increase the cost by as much as £20 , also online places tend to list vat seperatly

would you like to reply with the tyre sizes fitted to your car?

PS: I also think you were foolish listening to halfrauds who decided that ALL your tyres were illegal on UK roads , and would have suggested that you collected your car (with the puncture not repaired) and gone to an independent

9one has to ask if all your tyres were so illegal that they would not last for a few days , because in their words , If the Autocentre had time to order in tyres they may have been cheaper.
had they have ordered ,for a later delivery , they would have saved you money

Doubt can do much, you agreed blindly without checking what was being fitted and the price, had the tyres been worn or defective you may have a valid complaint.
My ex was like that with her car, just got tyre garages to sling anything on without checking often upsold her tyres she didn't need unless entering F1

It's business. They make as much profit as possible. If people don't ask what tyres are being put on the car when they say £300 for 4 tyres, they put the worst ones on to maximize profit.

    Unethical...maybe, but not illegal.

I fully appreciate that. I just wouldn't expect Halfords to outsource the tyres from a nearby garage just so the work is done the same day, meaning I get less for my money. Again, not illegal but morally wrong.

Anyway seems like I'll learn from my errors and move on.
