Hi everyone
Ok I want to buy a hard drive to back up my Toshiba Satellite C660-108 laptop (Windows 7, 64 bit operating system, 3GB)
Yes I'm bad and never done a back up and need to back up all my documents/photos etc. Can anyone recommend a hard drive I could buy as I'm not sure which one to buy?
Thanks
sunni

How much data do you have ? Are you sure you even need a harddrive, you can get high capacity usb pen drives for not much these days, or you could backup to the cloud.0

most of the 105 g used will be the operating system and program files , but a 500g or a I terabyte USB drive , and you will have tons of spare left over
not going to recommend any specific ones as the name you choose is your choiceSave a Rachael

Take out your hard drive, and place it into an external caddy costing around £4.
Place a SSD in it's place and install Windows 7 cleanly to it. Copy over any data you need from the old HDD.
That way you have a faster, more responsive machine and a back up on the old HDD.0 -

Install drivers specific to your machine and OS which you have previously downloaded from the maker's website and stored on CD, USB, whatever
Install any programs that you habitually use - if you've downloaded these from the web, you may have the install package saved as an executable on your machine, but if you're installing a different OS from before, you probably should download these again. If you've bought them, you probably have an install CD for them

This non technie wouldn't have a clue how to remove hard drive NiftyDigits thats why I thought buying a hard drive would be easier to back up but will see
There's guides on how to exchange/remove/insert hard drives on YouTube and all over the web. Once you've done it once, you'll be surprised how easy it is, and how all of a sudden you ARE a techie.
Before you know where you are, family members will be coming to you asking for tech support.
Go on, set yourself the goal to master how to do this, and to do it for yourself. You know you want to.

Buy a Toshiba Canvio or a WD Elements. Get a 2 or 3TB model
Both do the job and are nothing fancy. Simple plug and play drives.0 -

It's actually not hard, just a philips screwdriver required.

As indicated in post #10, it is super easy.
Don't neglect to create your Toshiba recovery discs before you begin.
Toshiba Recovery Media Creator should be in your Programs. You'll need some blank DVDs.
Caddy for the old HDD here
You don't need to be a Techie. You just need to prepare everything beforehand. The result will be worth it.0
