The last claim was Oct 15? Have you renewed since and which insurer is it?0
-
It is Hiscox. Renewal would have been November last year but would need to check.0

Why didn't you claim this one on your travel insurance, instead of your home contents insurance :huh:0 -

Travel Insurance has very poor cover on personal effects and baggage0 -

If you've just got the letter then presumably the renewal is Nov/Dec so over 12 months since the last claim (assuming you claimed promptly).
This time last year you had four claims in two years and now you have had four claims in three years. You are now a better risk than you were a year ago. Their chance to take underwriting action was last year not now.
If I was you I would find a broker with a Hiscox agency and see if they can get renewal terms on your current policy, even with a premium load or higher excess.0 -

Just to add to this.
Hiscox have underwriters look at everything, a seniorish underwriter would have reviewed your file and made the decision, they will not be to keen on over ruling a colleagues decision.
Your best bet would be if you have a friend who owns a large business who pay a broker £10k+ in premiums and said friend could ask the broker to do them a favour and pull some favours in at Hiscox.
Alternatively try a broker who has a Hiscox agency (They will have a "find a broker" on their webste) and are in a very affluent area. A broker is such an area will have a very large account with Hiscox and can exert influence over them.
If you do get cover with Hiscox again, try and not claim for two or three years.
P.S By any chance have you rung Hiscox in the last year to ask about a potential claim and then not made the claim?0 -
I'm surprised it's with Hiscox. I've always thought of them as a high end insurer. One that would be well used to expensive claims and wouldn't quibble over it. It's great that they paid out but rather disappointing that they'll then refuse to cover. I'm sure the OP has paid hefty premiums to them for however many years.
Just sayin' 🙂
Hope you get some cover sorted out elsewhere OP. It's a shame to have this hassle when you haven't done anything wrong.0 -
The figures mentioned aren't particularly expensive in Hiscox' world (and its doesn't sound like they did quibble). Probably more like nuisance claims and to get two per year isn't attractive to any insurer.I'm surprised it's with Hiscox. I've always thought of them as a high end insurer. 4 claims in 2 years, the insurers wouldn't see that in the same light as you have.
There has been some good advice on this thread now, I've got nothing further to add.
In response to a comment from rs65, whilst the OP had potentially had a claim free year and I agree the insurer should have taken action last year, perhaps they've tightened their UW criteria and this is now no longer acceptable? Or perhaps the 4th claim was IBNR until after the latest renewal?0 -
I don't believe they have.paddyandstumpy wrote: »

Hence why I said - assuming you claimed promptlypadfyandstumpy wrote: »Or perhaps the 4th claim was IBNR until after the latest renewal?0
