Money back in usd wire transfer

Hi, I booked a hotel through secret escapes but also paid for their cancellation insurance. Had to cancel, and it seems the company organising my money back is American;
- they say I can have wire transfer (minus fees and exchange rate) in usd.
- Is this going to make me lose money?

The alternative they give me is paypal so I'd need to set up an account; can't quite believe how difficult getting the money back has been. Thanks for advice, I get confused with exchange rates etc

    Yes: either way you would lose money, but I suspect that Paypal would be a better option. And the hassle involved in finding out how much you would lose with a wire transfer is probably greater than that involved in setting up a Paypal account (there would be fees to your UK bank for receiving the money as well as the sender's fees, and the people who answer phones probably don't know how much these fees are...)

    Did you pay by card? If so, what MIGHT work would be to contact the card issuer and request a charge-back (everyone agrees that you are entitled to your money back). That would leave the hotel without money, and then the US insurer could pay them rather than you.
