Paying extra for internet speed I'm not getting

Hi. A couple of months ago I ordered fibre broadband from Plusnet for my new home. I decided to treat myself and go for the double speed fibre extra package. (Up to 80Mbps instead of the standard 40).
The problem is I've never had anything above 40Mbps. I've spoken to Plusnet and they have determined that the line is probably not going to support anything higher. In fact they've said I could get as little as the minimum of 43Mbps that the openreach checker states for my line. But I'm not even getting that.
I've given up on wanting faster speeds now, but I don't want to be paying the extra money for faster speeds if I'm not getting them. All Plusnet are saying is their line fault checks have come back clear, so as far as they're concerned all is well.
Seems rather unfair. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

You will have to change your tariff to the lower speed one.0

Just change your package and start a new contract .As you said you bought the up to 80 package nobody forced it on you .
For most uses you would notice no increase at 80 over 30 or even 10 .
Use the diagnostics on the BT wholesale speed test to see your lines profile .

Can you do that? If so they kept it quiet. Thought I was stuck with the same package for 18 months.0

I thought they had to advise you if a service was not suitable. When you used to have a choice of ADSL speed ranges my son's provider advised him that he would be wasting money going for the faster package, as his line was not good enough to benefit.0
