Why do certain types use "liberal" as an insult? Being in favour of learning other people's views and challenging your own is hardly a bad thing

the reason that 'liberal ' is an insult, is that 'liberals' are the totally intolerant section of society who only believe their own views are valid : hence their surprise, shock and horror about the brexit vote and of course Trump.
  • Brexit?........... Trump?.......... What next?......... Prime Minister Corbyn?

Much more likely to have Prime Minister Farage tbh.

It's the right-wing that is surging not the left.
I am insane and have 4 mortgages - total mortgage debt £200k. Target to zero = 10 years! (2030)

i would say populism/nationalism rather than the right wing, right wing economic ideas are being abandoned all over the place at present.

Alarming to see so many people demonising learning. Calling us "the liberal elite."
You sent us to school. What did you expect? Ignorance?
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Nigel Farage, the leader of Ukip, described the result as "bigger than Brexit".

He told The Telegraph that Mr Trump's election will represent a "massive result" for Britain.

He said that the UK would have a "friend in the White House" who will prioritise trade relations with the UK.

    No, note my bold

Are you sure he likes Scotland?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
