Some banks will limit how many bags they take in one go, including Post Offices.
Barclay's should have one window for business/ foreign exchange. Anyone type of account holder can use it though.0 -
Just take the coins into any bank & say you want to exchange for notes. They'll count them & give you notes
Not any bank that I go into (unless you're thinking of a bank in 1976).
OP, one option would be for you to use the coins to pay for supermarket shopping using a self scan machine (although not the card only ones at Waitrose of course) and give him the equivalent in notes yourself.0 -
When my son had over £15 in coppers, I got him the coin bags (asked a service desk bod, not a cashier) & the kitchen scales. The bank accepted the bags without a cheep (but weighed each one carefully).
My son was So Proud to be the owner of 3 new £5 notes, and savvy enough to check to see if they were AA at once!0 -
Thanks for the replies. Getting rid of the coins by spending them is not a problem, I was just curious about how our new, technologically advanced banks deal with real money.

God help grandma.
My nearest 2 branches of Barclays have no problem accepting correctly counted and bagged coins. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

When I was a child, my parents would get me coin bags (free) from the bank. We would then bag up and count the money. I would be taken to the bank to pay them into my account.
It was a great experience and got me into the habit of visiting the bank to pay money in from a young age.0 -
Does he not having a savings account with Barclays or someone else?
Almost all providers will accept coins, for childrens accounts, if correctly bagged. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
