Help Needed With British Gas/Sainsbury's

Options
Hi everyone,

Apologies if this isn't the right place to post this, but I could do with some advice.

I left my last property 22/01/016 and took photos of the meter readings and sent to Sainsbury's (who I had the fuel supply with). I received a bill for £2500 for a two up one down terrace house. After picking myself up off the floor and phoning Sainsbury's, the problems was discovered in that the meter had been changed during my tenancy. Luckily I had all the details and waited patiently for the details at the national database to be updated. When this was done, I spoke to a Sainsbury's representative who told me that the account was closed and a cheque for £20 something was on it's way to me and the matter was closed.

A few weeks later I get a bill for £368 approx and so I phone again. This time it was a dispute with the new tenant - but I sent the photos of the meter readings, ah yes, well we forgot to bill you for your gas supply. The bill has now been revised to £250 with discounts as good will gestures. I've had multiple calls from British Gas themselves - when I spoke to one person and pointed out there was a dispute he put the phone down on me! ( I was very polite and didn't shout!) The next person I spoke to said she could see on the computer that the amount should be written off. She said she would speak to Sainsburys - to which I received an email saying that the representative was wrong and I still owe £250. Now BPO (debt collection agent for British Gas is contacting me. This person listened to the whole story and said she would come back to me. In the past, when I've received a bill - and there have been many - there was a date it should be paid by. In the last contact with Sainsbury's there was no date and no bill in the post either. And no notice that the matter was being passed to a third party.

To say I'm fed up is an understatement. I'm feeling really indignant about this - why should I pay it? I'm thankful that I'm not a vulnerable person as I think for other people this situation would be a huge upset and worry. It's bothered me enough.

Any advice to resolve this situation would be gratefully received. Thanks muchly in advance peeps! xx
