O/S Daily Monday 31 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Now getting light, but foggy again, but forecast says it should get out to be a decent day - we'll see, I'm going to put washing on the line before I leave for work.

Lunch yesterday was roast loin of pork, roasties, mash, carrots, cauli in cheese sauce, broc, HG green beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight dinner will be a change to the menu plan as I'd got the ingredients to make a chicken korma, rice and extras for Saturday night, this didn't happen and we had a cheeky takeaway which was probably one of the best we've had - but DH had terrible indigestion all night so we won't be going down that route again (I did say I'd rather cook as this is the problem we have every time!) The menu tonight will be chicken in a mushroom sauce and rice for DH and chicken korma and rice with extras for me and the boys, I have shuffled the menu plan around to accommodate this change, so no problems, but need to use some bits up tonight.

Work was ok on Saturday, and we were reasonably productive Saturday afternoon, the caravan desperately needed cleaning inside and out, so after we'd both finished work, had a quick lunch we picked caravan up and took it to DH's place of work (they close at 12 noon on a Saturday) so we had the place to ourselves and he had ok'd it with his boss. I was inside cleaning whilst they were outside washing, it was filthy outside they get a green moss type gunk on them - all looks much better, I had the industrial hoover inside and that was brilliant, so now feel much happier as we're only using it this weekend and then 1 weekend in November then nothing until into next year - it's likely to be March before we use it again. Yesterday we went to the next town to meet someone from our caravan group who had some kit to give to DH as it's faulty and it's all being sent back to the manufacturer - DH is getting that organised through his work.

Back to work today - we'll see how it goes, expecting it to be busy as it's the 1st of the month tomorrow and there's loads of enquiries and problems with council tax at the moment - on Saturday I was on the telephones and all but 2 queries were to do with council tax, so expecting the same today!

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for starting us off nmlc. Hope you all had a good weekend.

I got loads of little jobs done yesterday including 3 of the walls surrounding the shelves in the cupboard, quite fiddly but looking better. Will put everything back tonight and start the others.

Also put up a couple of pictures that have been hanging around, did the ironing, sorted out the bank accounts, and made 2 banana loaves (which DD took away with her!).

Had a lovely meal out at friends last night and had a good catch up, it was good to see them.

Feel so tired this morning, this extra hour is a killer, would much rather loose an hour I think.

Hope you all have a good week, take care. XX

    Morning all
    Samhain blessings to everyone.
Off to work for me in a sec, the fish have been fed and my L&M has a cuppa, he's on a later shift today.
I went to bed early yesterday as I spent the day shifting furniture to steam the floor and helping my L&M carry toilets upstairs, deep joy.
I have my witches hat ready for this evening along with some sweets and satsumas for the local children.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

My yesterday wasn't as productive as Camelot's! Just went up to Oban to see Dr Strange and when at home watched SCD and then headed for bed. OH turned up at about 7pm but I left him downstairs doing 'stuff'.

This morning I'm taking the Tarbert woman to her podiatry appointment. Because I've driven her twice now she'll recognise me and feel safe, at least that's the theory.

It was so dark so early yesterday, pitch black by 5.30pm. :( I'd much rather have darker mornings. Only four months to go and it'll get darker earlier and earlier. Think I should hibernate!

    Happy Halloween/Monday everyone.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the thread. Another silly early rising for me but what's new?! I've been pottering on doing quiet jobs as don't want to wake up the DGDs. Just done the end of month finances, I'm always glad when that job's done and everything tallies!! There's been an awful lot going out this last month on bills and necessities!

The big caravan shutdown weekend went as smoothly as it could. The usual hardwork but we were away by mid afternoon yesterday, leaving the van stuffed to the gunnels, with its winter coat on, along with the decking and big picnic table covered too. We were certainly glad of DS's help. It seems a long time until March now and we so miss our peaceful woodland bolthole through the winter months.

Jobs have been very neglected here this last week with one thing and another so there's much catching up to be done. But it won't start today with the 3 DGDs to entertain all day! Today will be devoted to washing all the curtains and cushion covers brought back, along with a full and overflowing linen basket of clothes here. And must try and pop to the SM too at some point. By no means a full shop to do, as we haven't been here to use things, but running low on fridge stuff, in particular salad and dairy.

The girls made a request for sausage and mash for lunch so some of our yummy sausage stock is out defrosting in readiness.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need, especially LAINEY and DM and not forgetting the poorlies and stressed. Take care all xxx

  • Morning all and a blessed Samhain to all x
Well no change in FIL still.
Spent the weekend shopping for the holidays . Went to north weald market and got some good bargains for the DGD .also go a huge leg of lamb for a fiver which was beautiful for dinner yesterday and the leftovers are already in a sauce for a curry tonight.
Taking the DGD trick or treating tonight at a few houses that I have already checked with are ok with it. She is going to be a witch bless her.
Been watching the house market with interest and I am pleased prices are starting to drop as it means we can hopefully afford what we want soon.
Anyhoo better go get DD2 up for work.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx

    Morning :hello:

There's a family of robins in my garden! I think there are two babies, though there might be three. Am very pleased about this :D Blackbirds are visiting too, to steal the berries from the bush (cotoneaster, I think?).

It's foggy here, I love this weather :D Wrapping up in lots of clothes to go out, then coming home to a cosy house. Lovely.

Monday is my favourite day, I spend a bit of time planning my week then get stuck in decluttering anything that's been left lying around over the weekend. I'll update my spreadsheets later. I'll probably spend a bit more time than usual on the laptop, I want to rework the budget a bit and make next year's calendar. I also need a longish term plan for various things, first thing to do is to open another bank account – that'll probably take me days because I'll agonise over which is the best one :D

Morning everyone and Samhain blessings to you all x

Very foggy here a the moment but we are meant to have a bright, warm day so fingers crossed that's the case.
Had a very down day yesterday with lots of tears, DM does seem to be deteriorating day to day now and it's hard to see, am trying to take things just one day at a time but it's taking its toil for sure. Didn't do much at all but did get over to see Bill, he was warm and sweaty in his stable as nearly has a full winter coat now, I usually have clipped him by the end of October but apart from trimming his legs have done nothing. It takes a good couple of hours but really must make the time at some point this week.
Today will be catching up on housework and chores then over to see Mum.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
