Uninsured car, accident not at fault..

I had auto renewal on annual travel policy, got email of price, then got email confirming cover. A year later when I tried to renew it turns out they never took the payment, regardless of email confirmation it was up to me to check apparently. luckily no claim required but we did trave to USA uninsured :mad: unknown to me. That's not really anything to do with auto-renewal.
An incompetent insurer could make that the same mistake if you renewed by phone, or renewed online, or renewed by post - or even if it was a brand new policy.0
