this is the road on googlemaps, the sign is where the skip is and that was where i was parked.
Edit to add it is not residential area, across the roads is a hotel, Marriot i think, the sign says owners are @Bristol which is a tourist attraction.0 -
ok that's fair enough.
just saying to husband that this wasn't always a private owned road, I remember as a young child the road being there, a good 20 years before @Bristol was there, I can only assume that @Bristol bought the road and land from someone, it was very much derelict land for years, it was also not always a no through road.
Assuming nothing has changed in twenty years is hardly an excuse for parking on private land without checking the signs. Your original query was about the wording of the signs which shows you have not read the booklet that come with your blue badge.
The @Bristol site has been private land since about 1906 when it was railway land, turned into the Exploratory in 1984, before becoming @Bristol in 2000. So it was definitely private property when you were there twenty years ago and before.
I remember having a stall at an auto-jumble there in the late seventies or early eighties, as well as going to several beer festivals there. A huge scaffolding ramp was built up the side for the auto jumble so cars could get up to the first floor to be sold off at auction.
It was a through road then but it has long been a no through road since about the time the tramway centre was ripped up and turned into a pig's ear. It's a huge oval, but imagine a roundabout where you can't go all the way round, but have to make a massive detour instead. Bonkers I say.I married my cousin. Looks like a private access road for the Aquarium. Nothing fishy to my mind.
To check if it truly is a private road, get in touch with the Bristol LA Roads & Highways department and ask if some sole there can help. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Visit York. Unless it has changed, Council car parks were free for BB holders and there were no P & D machines on roads so parking in the city centre, and even inside the walls was possible on double yellows for three hours for free.I married my cousin. I did say that i did not notice the sign Your original query was about the wording of the signs which shows you have not read the booklet that come with your blue badge. I've had my book about 10 years, my book is in the loft, i would have great difficulty getting in and trying to find said book, also my memory is bad, this is why i asked on here. Although grateful for all advice, being talked down to i don't think is necessary do you?

Born and Bred Bristolian (irrelevant i know) Bristol harbour had been derelict for years before a major injection of cash etc improved the area and thus bringing in the tourists.
I saw two large parking bays and that was that, i did not notice the sign, although when i did, it was clearly marked. If you don't have the insights of the mind of someone with MS, please don't talk down to me like a child. It is lovely that you off to help on here but really tone down the authority attitude please.
I have MS not quite brain dead. I came to ask if it really was right that i shouldn't park there, you guys have said it is right, I have the answer. I will not be parking there again. Thank you.0 -
Just for giggles this bit, I've found what i assume to be parkshield's website. I wanted to see if they did indeed belong to any governing body
Badly spelt, looks like text-bridge copying gone wrong, now i know my grammar is terrible due to my cognitive skills with ms but this is unbelieveable

I did not intend to talk down to you and apologise if that is how it appeared. You are not the only one on this thread with a disability which is why I try to help others on this subject.
I was trying to explain why you weren't aware that the BB scheme does not apply on private land. Whilst you may not have easy access to your booklet, other sources such as the UK Gov website concerning this government scheme are available.
Again, I unreservedly apologise if I have upset you in any way. This was never my intent.
We are all volunteers here and will help anyone we can. Some people need more help that others. Some just need to be pointed in the right direction. I hope I/we have done this.

Thank you, that really means a lot.
i didn't think to check websites, just came here as i know there are people that would know.
And i have been given great information. :T0 -
for info only
if you have had your booklet for 10 years then its out of date and has been superceded and reprinted several times
the current booklet can be downloaded from the government website and you are also issued with a new booklet (now blue) every time your badge is renewed , especially since they changed it a couple of years ago
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-blue-badge-scheme-rights-and-responsibilities-in-englandCopies of this leaflet can be downloaded from the GOV.UK website at www.gov.uk/ government/publications/the-blue-badge- scheme-rights-and-responsibilities-in- england Produced by the Department for Transport Updated January 2015 © Crown Copyright 2007 Product Code T/INF/1214
the BB is not relevant on private land and is no indicator of being disabled as not everybody qualifies for one, yet they may meet the EA2010 which is applicable and as seen by the date came in 6 years ago (this was preceded by the DDA 1995 and subsequently the newer DDA 2005, incorporated into the EA2010 which currently covers your condition)
I have had orange and blue badges and booklets and still do due to A.S.
I probably have several booklets hanging around here somewhere, lol
as mentioned above, its important to double check the rules any time and anywhere that you park, as it varies widely, but even more on private land which may or may not have byelaws in place , or has landowner restrictions in place
if in doubt use the public roads wherever possible , where your BB is valid
there was a time when people with disabilities were issued with GREEN cards that proved they were "qualified" under the legislation, sadly this is no longer the case
always remember that other disabled people may read this thread so the information given is valuable to all, which may mean it is spelt out in simple terms for all, including those members who have started the thread
I would now class this thread as essential reading for those members with blue badges, or those who qualify under the EA2010, or who qualify for both, due to the information given so far0 -
