Following on from my SOA, one of the things that stood out most was about being creative when it came to giving presents etc. Well, I put on my thinking cap and have decided to make "goody-baskets" for my friends and loved ones this year, each individually chosen for that person's interests or personality!
I have basically written my list of all the adults I have to buy for (which I have kept to the bare minimum this year), I have then matched each one to a themed goody-basket. I then went to the local pound shop with my list in hand so that I did not buy anything not on the list and bought some nice baskets/containers to put the goodies in. I have made up the baskets as follows very cheaply and they look lovely.
Gardening goody-basket - Lovely green felt basket with handles which is lined with plastic £1, Gardening Apron £1, Pair of snazzy cotton gardening gloves with flower pattern £1, foam kneeler £1, Pink mini watering can/sprayer 69p from price cutting shop, cut-price book on gardening £2.00, Lovely scented candle (part of two-pack from Sainsburys in sale £1.25), and will also put a nice hand-cream/bath soak in from somewhere like savers or Wilkinsons which I have yet to source! Wrap the whole lot up in cellophane wrap and put a nice ribbon on. Basically you will have a gorgeous goody-basket for under £10!!!!
You can follow this basic idea with different themes buying cheap items and co-ordinates from places like Savers, Wilkinsons, or using Boots Advantage points etc. Fill a Cookery goody-basket with things like nice coffee, biscuits, mugs (cheap but attractive packs from somewhere like Tesco) etc. oven gloves, tea towels, hand cream, cut-price recipe book etc.
A Pampering goody-basket could follow the same idea but filled with soap, candles, foot loofah, nail file, small hair wrap or hand towel, bath bombs etc.
I am planning to make my husband a Guitar goody-basket with a cut-price guitar book, some whacky plectrums and some other related music goodies!
My brother-in-law is getting a Fishing goody-basket with a cut-price book on fishing, some nice little fishing gadgets etc.
Basically just convert it to whatever the person will enjoy. Aiming to make all of these for under a tenner and the most expensive purchase I have made is a roll of 23m clear cellophane to wrap the baskets up in which I managed to get on the internet for about £5.
As far as the kids go, I have set a budget and will get everything on e-bay/freecycle or in the local paper this year!
Hope this has been useful. Yours Bekibuns

doing hampers/goodie bags is a great way of doing pressies cheaply and often very thoughtful. There's a whole thread about pressie hampers on the Special Occasions board with photos and lists of 'past' basketsInitial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I wrapped an open box in paper and thenpackaged the whole thing in tinsel. it looks better than a plain dvd wrapped up and only cost about £8.00 i need to get cracking on hampers for other friends and family now!DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0

I am making a my DH A very cheap (ie less than £10 ) Hamper entitled
"i love you and thought I would buy you something to unwrap on Xmas day despite the fact you spent the budget for your xmas present on an electric golf bugy that you started to use in august (and I refuse to wrap up that dirty thing and put it in my lounge"
any ideas what to put in it?Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help?

I think that naughty OH deserves a copy of "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" in his little goody-box don't you?! BB xBekibuns:smileyhea
