John Peters (Furnishings) Ltd went into administration on 25 May and on the same day, certain assets of the Company were bought by Business Dream Ltd who are now trading as ‘John Peters’.My wife and I were waiting on an order for dining room furniture at the time so we were pleased to hear that BDL were hoping to fulfil existing customer orders. Now, 22 weeks on from ordering and paying our deposit, we have had word that our furniture is in the country and available for delivery. The trouble is that I’m wary of parting with the balance of £2250 in advance of the delivery which is what they are insisting on at the moment. HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION? WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AND HOW DID IT TURN OUT PLEASE?
Glass always half empty, never half full and what's this 'impluse buying'?

Hi Cautious Tyke, greetings from another Tyke.
My wife ordered furniture from John Peters at York , paid her £200 deposit then we found out that they had gone into Administration.
Eventually we were invited to pay the balance as the furniture (leather suites) was due the following week.
This I paid with my Credit card working on the principle that if they renaged
again then the Credit Card company would reimburse me.
The furniture was delivered and we are very pleased with the end result.
Since then my son has bought furniture from John Peters which was
sourced at Leeds and delivered the following week.
Moral of the story is pay by Credit card if the goods are £100 or greater !
I hope this helps.0 -
John Peter's must really have been a Yorkshire thing then...
I had delivery of my sofas from John Peter's after quite a few arguments. I gave them written cancellation of my order after being told time and time again that my goods were at the dock awaiting clearance of funds (due to the administration).
My argument was that the goods were well over due and despite a verbal promise to fulfil any outstanding orders I had no written confirmation of this from BDL. Nor did I have any faith in BDL full-filling the order due to the absence of any delivery dates.
I received numerous calls from JP after they received my letter each offering a discount of some kind not to cancel. I refused to talk about any kind of dicount or change of stance until they could give me a delivery date set in stone. The Manager finally put the phone down on me.
I just sent all the paperwork thought to my credit card company and they returned my deposit money.
Weeks later I had a call asking me if they could delivery the sofas (despite getting my deposit back) Out of shear awkwardness I agreed. On the morning of the delivery I had a call telling me that I had not paid the balance. So I went and paid the balance instore by CC and hey presto the goods were delivered in the space of 20mins at my house, and they deducted the delivery charge.
My Conscience got the better of me and I advised my CC co that the dispute was resolved. But i was tempted to keep the deposit. My farts hospitalize small children0
