British Gas have the largest amount of customers in the UK. Obviously every supplier will have some issues, meter readings which don t follow on,incorrect readings, incorrect meters and serial numbers. Personally I have been with British Gas and never had a problem. Giving advice like this over your personal problem is sledge hammer cracking a nut.
Yesterday I attempted to get a friend switched to Sainsburys Energy ( British Gas ) and every thing was going OK but it would not go through because the two emails did nt match. Tried half a dozen times, even tried another email but it still failed. The friend started losing faith in British Gas when in fact it was MSE glych, but Brit Gas got the blame.
If you want a supplier with "major issues " you go to Scot Power or Npower. British Gas in my opinion do not have any major issues, minor maybe but not major0 -
I switched to British Gas via the MSE link and yes I had a few glitches but it all got sorted before the first bill arrived. HappyChappy now!0

I've been with British Gas since July 2015 and have switched to their new collective deals on a couple of occasions. The only issue I had was a direct debit not being set back up which was soon sorted via email.0

If everyone boycotted a company because someone posted about a problem, then no energy company, car/household appliance company etc etc would have any business.
I switched twice to BG via MSE without problem, so in the spirit of your post - BG are absolutely wonderful - everyone should join without delay especially if you have duel(sic) fuel';)0 -

I have had BG for years, keep swapping tariffs with them. Readings go through fine for me and I neither end up with too high or too low a balance.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

Another happy British Gas Dual Fuel customer here. Zero problems with the website or app to submit meter readings before getting Smart Meters in June.
Have had 1 or 2 minor issues but the staff on the phone were really helpful and sorted it right away. Even when my online bill said £140 and their internal system said £190 and we both had the same meter readings being displayed they didn't quibble. They realised it was a double reading on their internal system and amended it while on the phone with them, which made the bills tally up.
Really happy and it's why I chose to stick with them. Sure I might be £5-£10 a month cheaper elsewhere, but in a similar situation I would probably get fobbed off instead of being helped.
Hence I chose to stick with them even though they are not the cheapest, but according to MSE, nearly the cheapest for my usage, so that suits me.0 -
well I've been on BG Dec 2016 fix and I have never been able to submit readings online via account login and even my electricity is on a smart meter, the last update was June and I gave those readings!
I never know if my payments made are accurate which is why I'll switch away regardless soon as I can.
Their twitter help team are fantastic though, I'll give them that.0 -
Please could those who have transferred successfully tell me what magic spell they incanted?
My switch has been an nightmare - currently the opening read they are trying to use would see me paying for about £120 worth of gas twice!0
