I'd suggest speaking to VW or TPS, you might find the parts are not unreasonably priced. I've found some genuine VW parts are actually not far off the price of Ebay options. Another alternative is a supplier called B&B Components who have parts for most VWs.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • True and it's actually something I was going to do.

However I've read crank sensor, MAP sensor & MAF sensor.

I don't fancy shelling out on all 3 to cover all bases so I'm not sure which sensor to pick up.

To throw another one in there, I had a Ford Focus that had a hairline crack down one of the spark plugs.

When putting your foot on the accelerator, it would judder for half a second, then recover.
  • Well i contacted our local VW regards the sensor. I contacted them saying i was looking at the MAP sensor since i think that is what you guys are leaning towards.

However i also included the first fault listed on page 1 in the Vagcom readout & said i was looking to buy in relation to that.

    They said:
the SDC Code comes to a Pressure Sensor
With a value of £64.52, please be aware that this would be a special
Order part and is non-returnable should you wish to proceed.

The car has been juddering quite a bit lately although no major drops in speed/revs like i mentioned earlier.
I just plugged Vagcom in now & the readout i got which i posted on page 1 - that error code is no longer listed.

A bit late to chip in.

But I have had a Mk4 (which had this problem a couple of times) and known other owners to report the same. The most common cause of the erratic idle is unmetered air. Suggest you have somebody take a very close look at the vacuum hoses for cracks, as this will disrupt the fuel air mix and give you the bouncy revs. I would be very surprised if a cracked hose isnt your problem or at least some kind of air flow issue, and it might not get picked up in a VAG com.
  • Just re read the post and note your car troubles are at motorway crusing rather than idle, my fault for trying to comprehend text late at night. What I would suggest is you get over to Mk4 net website and post your question. Whilst there are nowhere near as many members as MSE they will all be mk4 owners or enthusiasts so more likely to have experienced what you are finding. They helped me out with a couple of things and probably saved me hundred of pounds. Might be worth doing that before you start replacing sensors based on guesswork.

Thanks. It isn't only at motorway speeds. It has started to sort of judder at idle but it drops revs when travelling yes.

As for a specific MK4 Golf forum, i've actually tried one in the past for problems. I wont name which one but they weren't very helpful. There's a lot of members but not so many replies to threads.
