Ikea nursery furniture failed delivery twice

Hi everyone,

We're really frustrated with Ikea. Found a lovely 3 piece furniture set and some nice nursery extras. We ordered on 14th October and we received the email that it would be delivered on Tuesday 25th between 2pm and 6pm. Waited in all day to receive an email saying the order won't be delivered today at 5pm. I waited on the phone for nearly an hour to be told the order would be delivered in two weeks time now. I said this was unreasonable and I asked if they could send me the furniture set out before next week. They said my local store would be in touch to deliver this on Friday the 28th and because it's from the store they won't be able to give me a time. I got fed up of waiting at 6pm and rang them up only to be told that the ordered hadn't been cancelled properly and was never due to be delivered today.

Waiting on an email now for when it would be delivered now. I'm really annoyed and we're really frustrated. Waited in for two days now and still no furniture. I'd planned to get the nursery done this week and now obviously can't.

Where do I stand regarding the loss of time and the distress this has caused us both, especially my wife who is heavily pregnant and just wants some furniture in for peace of mind.

For next time, if you ever use them again, if you go in to store you can choose your items and pay £20 for next day delivery. You don't even have to physically pick them, you can leave them with a list of things you want and they'll pick them for an extra £5

Have a read of MSE's Failed Delivery article.

I would forget about any compensation for distress, and Ikea cannot be held responsible for your wife being heavily pregnant, can they? :D

At our Ikea the delivery charge is £25 and £10 extra for them to pick. Very efficient service though.

OP Ikea can be very helpful but very frustrating at times, not a lot you can do I am afraid.

It's always worth asking for compensation when a company makes these sort of mistakes. I usually get some sort of compensation, usually they will waive the delivery charge. The compensation will be called a goodwill gesture but that doesn't matter.
