I'm not great at negotiation but what I did was get an Internet quote for a PCP deal for the spec of car, and then was able to go to the dealer and ask whether they would match.
+1
Our local Mercedes dealer was only giving us 4% off a new A45, until i said i could get 10% off one through a broker. He laughed out loud. Genuinely.
I said we were happy to do that and we'd walk unless he came back with a better offer. He came back 10 mins later @ 8%, and they were giving us £2,000 more for our 370Z than we'd otherwise have got from WBAC.

I am looking to buy a new 500 Lounge, my local dealer in Swansea has 2 in stock, but will not knock anything off because he says Fiat don't have to discount them. I have seen a pre registered one in Cardiff for £9280 with 8 miles on the clock, so obviously this has been reduced. Anyone else got any experience of getting money off one of these. Thanks
As has been said, if your local stealer wont deal, then you'll have to shop around.
They dont "have" to discount, if they're otherwise confident of selling them.0 -
The Fiat 500 is a trendy car, your chances of getting a "discount" are slim to none.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

what does the drivethedeal website say - I have gone on there on the past and shown the dealer the deal they offered - they didn't match it but gave me a decent discount on the strength of it0

I'll second getting quotes from CarWow first then playing the dealers off against each other. I did this recently with my new i10 - my local Hyundai dealer managed to price match the cheapest quote I got via Car Wow.0

Also try Coast2Coast - they are advertising about 2500 off list0

How does the price compare like for like with other retailers?
Is it more expensive or have you just seen a discount as a right of way when buying a car?0 -

A lot of people have delusions of getting discounts on cars, this is because friends/family always bang on about how they got a great deal on a car (even if they actually didn't and even if they bought a lemon).
I've known people come back from the well known "crafty car" retailers, insisting they got a great deal and a nice discount on a car, which simply isn't possible.
They do it because people feel the need to justify buying new cars, they may secretly want to lord it over the neighbours, but they don't want people to think that's why they did it, so discounts and being green and all that !!!! is the standard excuse these days.
Unfortunately it confuses everyone they speak to, into thinking there are these great deals to be had.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Are discounts still "a thing", anyway?
I thought everybody leased new cars these days, and it was increasingly difficult to actually get a buy price...0
