  • Thanks Pauline! :)

Popped to the well known chemists at lunchtime as I needed moisturiser - wanted an SPF one as that means I don't have to worry about anything else on my face if I don't want to. Also had in mind a couple of extra points offers that needed exploring - checked the reductions section and found a pack of Johnson & Johnson facewipes for £1 which is the same price I'd pay for the own label essentials ones. Picked up a Time Delay moisturiser for £5 - had an offer for 75 extra points on their own brand stuff so that was ideal. Then grabbed a 25p pack of paracetamol to make use of 50 extra points on healthcare too. £6.25 spent and £1.49 worth of points earned back. :T Shouldn't need to buy facewipes for a while either as I only bought a pack a couple of weeks ago when they offered me 75 extra points when I bought my usual basic ones! :D Did briefly feel myself straying in the direction of assorted other things that I definitely DIDN'T need but resisted temptation - AND spent cash rather than defaulting to the contactless! :T

  • Just having a quick read of some of the posts in your diary EssexHebri... sounds like your doing well! I'm impressed!
I think that sometimes you do need to give into temptation because if you constantly resist it, it's easy to get drawn into a 'refusing to spend any money to enjoy it' mindset which then can impact social groups/opinions on yourself etc.
    Keep it up :)

  • Oh I definitely agree Zippy - I think it's one of the hardest things when people first become debt free/clear the mortgage, to start to relax on your spending a bit and not be examining every penny. These temptations however were of the "Ooh that facewash looks nice!" (got one in use, one in the bathroom cabinet and a further one stashed in the box in the bedroom) "that scrub sounds interesting" (Got one in use and another stashed) and "That Conditioner might be nice) Got several others in stock including a mahoosive bottle that will last me somewhere about forever!) :rotfl: I used to be a positive demon for buying piles of toiletry type stuff that I REALLY didn't need and honestly I don't want to go back there! :D

  • We've spent about 2 months actually using all the miniatures we've gathered from various hotels/B&Bs over the past few years. i think the initial thought is, 'oh they'll make nice presents' but we aren't organised enough for that so they just end up being collected!'
I've just bought some lovely shaving foam BUT my dad did request some for his birthday, mine has nearly run out (and I'm economical with it!) and it was on offer for 2.

EH, that's where we struggled. We found it nice to be able to spend money without worrying about whether it should go to debt first. We did save but everyday spends have creeped up a lot. Silly little things too like buying lunch, or a cuppa while out. Not needed! Frugal February sounds like a great idea. Thank you.

  • Just came to say best wishes for a safe journey.

Totally with you on the temptation of lotions and potions. I have a drawer full of bits, and i have to make myself go and look and see just how big the collection still is every time I am tempted.
