I always wonder if having remote control of the heating just makes it much easier to just keep nudging the temperature up - versus getting up and just adjusting the temperature.0

To answer the side topic of routers left on or off. It is always best to leave your router turned on as broadband companies use a technology called DLM or Dynamic Line Management. The aim is to ensure the right balance between speed and stability is met. Each time your connection drops, the DLM will lower your broadband speed. DLM will keep doing this until it no longer sees a drop in connection. The trouble is DLM cannot tell the difference between a drop in connection due to a fault or a drop in connection due to you turning off the router.

This is from a PC magazine that I trust - naturally coming at things from a more technical angle

Hi there, unfortunately my experience of Tado has been dreadful! Whilst it is true that it is possible to install it such that there is a manual override via the old timer on the boiler, this has no effect if you have a technical issue with the Tado 'bridge' - this can prevent any signal from reaching the boiler and yes therefore you can be in a situation, as I have, where you cannot turn the heating on. I have also had situations where the heating won't turn off, though you can of course turn the boiler off at the wall... unless of course, as happened to me, this happens when you're not at home. If you absolutely love new technology then perhaps the joy will outweigh the inconvenience of sporadic malfunctioning, but as someone who simply hoped to have a more energy efficient heating system I would strongly advise people to stay well away from Tado.0
