Buying a tassimo

Missus wants one. I've had a look. There are eight models on the website. Other than style, the only differences appear to be size of unit and amount of water each one can hold (with one requiring a brita filter).

How the fudge do I decide which tassimo to buy? The tassimo website doesn't make it very clear.

  • I got a basic start off model and have all the stuff for it and can say that I have used about three times to date. My reason laziness as I cannot be bothered to set it up and clean it, If you want frothy milk then buy the additional machine for that.

I have a Nespresso and agree about the milk frother. Get one that uses heat and magnets rather than hot air. Aldi had one for £20 a few months back whereas a proper Nespresso one will cost you twice that.

I use my Nespresso regularly rather than a lot. I prefer tea but sometimes a cup of coffee is nice.

As you say the only real difference is the size of the water tank. So depending on how many cups you plan on making at once or available worktop space, then id go for the smallest. We have a T40 in the kitchen and my daughter has a vivy in her bedroom
  • Well we had a look in our local Currys as they had several models on display. Some of them looked quite flimsy. The two that stood out were the Joy 2 (which has a Brita filter in despite being small) and the Caddy (which I loved for the front loading water tray). The Caddy was quite large in size.

Looks like it's the Joy 2
  • Wait for the half price offers, you should be looking at paying around £40 for one which will come with a £20 pod voucher.

They will be on offer every few months, usually in curry's.
We bought a hot water t_disc from Amazon so it now works as a normal kettle as well.

What does she want one for? If its for all the vaired drinks tassimo do then fair enough, if its for coffee, and good coffee at that, get her a nespresso. Bit more expense on the machine but generally cheaper pods.

Find the milk disgusting from tassimo's, my mums got one and she says she prefers it over my nespresso but i must disagree. I think she says it because she didnt listen to my advice and is stubborn. The difference is like a bus station vending machine and Starbucks.

If she hasnt already get her to try the two before committing. Nespresso will give you a free coffee in one of their stores and loads of people have tassimo's in the back of their cupboards so ask around. Always found those who have nespresso machines use them fairly regularly those with tassimos have another gadget in a cupboard.

Sorry im not normally this pretentious but you know... coffee.
  • I don't drink any hot drink other than maybe hot chocolate. Never been able to stand coffee. Wife loves lattes, cappuccinos, teas, fruit teas and hot chocolate. She has these almost daily in some way or form.

The nespresso is purely for coffee and hence why we wouldn't go for it.

I'd argue that you won't get a decent coffee out of a nespresso, a tassimo, or a starbucks!

I agree 100%, we had a Tassimo, pods were expensive and relatively poor quality, especially the milky drinks. We used it for about 6 months, now it's in the back of the cupboard.

We bought a Nespresso 2 years ago and use it daily, wouldn't be without it.

No, the Nespresso Lattissima does hot milk at the touch of a button, you use real milk, not those nasty little 'milk' capsules a tassimo uses. You can use it with the coffee capsules or just dispense hot milk, you can also get various fruit and normal tea capsules in supermarkets now.

With the Nespresso Milk frother you'll make a better hot chocolate than any capsule from a Tassimo/Dolce Gusto etc etc - fresh milk and choose your chocolate (either powder or liquid)
