How long a screw do you need to use to secure a door stop to a skirting board??? Certainly not any longer than would penetrate through the back!
We don't know that with certainty. Some people use screws far longer than necessary. They might grab the nearest screw rather than use the screw provided or find a shortish screw. Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to amateur DIY work. I've done daft DIY things myself.

But the point is moot. The consensus on here thinks it is bad practice to run mains cable behind or routed into the back of skirting. It would probably be ok but it isn't the ideal solution for the OP.
  • Not just bad practice, but not in compliance with wiring regs and therefore unlikely to comply with Part P of building regs either (assuming OP is in England or Wales).

No-one is talking about bridging the cavity?
Drill through to outside is the clue...? How do you drill through brick to the outside with out doing so as I said regs are how you interpretate them “bridged only by wall ties” There are other reasons its considered bad practice but each to there own, Personally if person can't lift flooring there in the wrong job :rotfl:

Bridging the cavity is where cables are installed within the cavity - not passing through it.

How do you install an outside light without drilling through a wall then?

Running cables in cavity (aside being a no no) its also not the same thing, Neither is just drilling through a one skin of a wall "bridging" it . As a cable example its through inner, across cavity through outer or vice versa , Is something different in Ireland?

Regards external lighting there are ways but retro fitting is much harder than initial designing to do so ? It just requires thought and planning. Granted most do neither, or are even aware that some bodies say you shouldn't ?
