I used to think I couldn't live without a dishwasher but having not had one for the last 3 years, due to lack of space, I seem to have managed ok without it, although I do miss it at times :o

I've bought three washing machines in 20 years, all being the combi tumble dryer types, yet I hardly ever use the tumble dryer part

One thing I definitely couldn't live without though is my PC and BB internet, as it is my only access to the outside world for communication with others and all my shopping needs. I could give up anything else but this and not sure I'd survive very long without it :o

The tumble dryer hasn't been used in a year or two, my mobile phone is in my bag, but hasn't been used in at least 3 years, and the heating has gone off. My dishwasher is very useful though.....my other half. Very rarely breaks down as long as I feed him enough chocolate custard to keep him going.

Right now the things I would really miss would be the fridge freezer....as I wouldn't have anywhere to store my pre-made meals...and my breadmaker because I now love it to bits. And the PC & internet of course, as I couldn't live without my daily fix of MSE

Its soup with fresh bread tonight...I can't wait.

I thought I could live without a mobile phone - but I cant!
Mine got nicked a while back and so I went without for about 3 months - it was a night mare - I spent soooo long in phone boxes that smelled of wee getting annoyed cus they swallowed my money. To make it worse I was living in temporary accommodation at the time so had no land line - try telling a prospective employer that you dont have a telephone number

however, I now have a proper rented place and I dont have a TV, dishwasher, food processor, tumble dryer or car and I dont miss them.

Having said that I couldnt live without the freezer or microwave!!
    ...
I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000

I couldn't live without my dishwasher because he's also central heating at night my gardener and my best friend ;) (have I made you all ill yet :D )

I'm starting to realise I could probably live without my car (in summer, when it's not raining anyway), I could live without my mobile phone (never use it anyway), not got a tumble drier, food processer or many mod cons. Could live without the telly. Couldn't live without my freezer though for storing all my HM ready meals.

Ok, my tumble drier is great but as I've only had it 3 years, I'm sure I could go back to line drying. My mobile - yes, a luxury, but very cheap. I'd miss my dishwasher, but would just have to get Mr TM to start wearing the marigolds again (stop it, MATH) Don't have a food processor, but do have 20 yr old Kenwood Chef that's as good as new and a stick blender, both of which I like. My juicer and electric steamer are of course, luxuries and my breadmaker I wouldn't miss as it's fairly !!!!!! so doesn't get used too often.

I would really really miss my slow cooker and my fridge and freezers. Also, my vacuum cleaner - couldn't be doing with beating carpets :D I need my car so that I can get to my parents as and when in a hurry, although could make do with public transport and shank's re school trips or going into town. I need my pc and internet as I pick up all my mystery shopping online throughout the day, so that more than pays for it. I wouldn't want to give up my landline either, but my last phone bills (rental excluded) have been less than £1 so a cheap 'luxury' Have to admit to being a bit of a telly addict as well as internet addict. That would be hard for me.

However, like someone else said, if needs must - we'd all manage with hardly anything. Now, all aboard Math's time machine - victorian era here we come :D

I couldn't live without my tumble dried in the winter, can't bear clothes hanging about the house.

Central heating is something I could do without - far to easy to turn it on rather than go find an extra layer, never had it when I was growing up and you learnt to cope......felt quite snug watching telly last night in my pj's and snuggled under a blanket, only to find that hubby had put the heating on just after tea cos he was cold!!!!!

Couldn't be without my food processor, I have carpol tunnel syndrome in both wrists and anything to do with mixing or slicing etc, hurts like ...well...it's painfull to say the least.

Mobile phone - pahh - hardly ever use it, wouldn't miss it. We went without a car for about 8 months a couple of years ago but we only lived 3 miles from town and the supermarkets so it wasn't too bad, now we live 7 miles from the nearest shops I could see it would be a problem.

The telly could go tomorrow and I'd not miss it, I only watch it occasionaly and normally prefer to read or play with the kids.

Could never get rid of my internet and computer..been such a huge part of my life and kept me sane for the past 5 years... it's also a major lifeline, I've met so many nice people online that have made the transfer into "real life friends" and I love keeping in touch with them all. It's also responsible for me and hubby meeting.....we thank the great god "microsoft" for bringing us together ;)

Couldn't live without the fridge (would love one of those big American ones - but kitchen is too small  )

I wouldn't want to do without the dishwasher because the kitchen is small (it saves having stuff piled up waiting to be washed up on the space I am trying to use!)

Couldn't live without the washing machine.

    Definately couldn't cope without electricity!!!!

Can't imagine life without the computer either. Oh! and CD player/radio.

As most of the clothes we own are not tumble-dryable, we manage quite well by using the line outside in summer and clothes horses indoors in winter or inclement weather. I do like to tumble dry my towels, though, as they only come out nice and thick and soft and fluffy this way. But it does amuse me when people say they couldn't do without this or that.

I bet our parents wished they had half the things we have, and they all managed perfectly well. Disposable nappies were cost prohibitive. Clothes were soaked and washed by hand and always, always pegged out - whatever the weather. And they had to be washed and dried because we couldn't afford as many as we have today and let huge ironing heaps build up, or we made our own. Meals were always cooked from scratch. Washing up always done by hand (and I've never owned a dishwasher - wouldn't know what to do with it). As my parents had lino they had no need for one of those posh, new vacuum cleaners - until they could afford a carpet.

Reminds me of that Monty Python sketch: 1st Yorkshire man: "When I were a lad we lived in a cardboard box." [beat] 2nd Yorkshire man: "We didn't have a cardboard box."

If I didn't have to work for a living I'd probably manage without all of my gadgets - and my mom had 2 jobs and my dad had 1 job and did foreigners (or "afters" as they say hereabouts).
