Panic ye not, dearheart. I relented and have made pizza and bought some oven chips :o I saw a YS'd 'essentials' cheese and tommy pizza in mrW. They had knocked a whopping 40p off. It could have been mine for only £2.25.........

We are having 3 cheese pizza. Using up some left over grana padano, the YS'd smoked red leicester and some h3ron f00ds affordable cheddar.

I'm away to waste 90 minutes of my life watching England dribble.

C'mon Scotland, give us some good footy to watch :D

Pizza on a Friday chez GP!:j - Feeling a bit more settled now!

OH is watching the self-same 90 minutes -I'm trying to ignore it!

My mealplan has evolved to be something like yours these days...
...its theme based for each day of the week - OH refuses to be veggie so the compromise is 'lots of veg' with small amounts of protein - our home meals are yellow stickered or POTW based
Monday - lots of veg with fish
Tuesday - lots of veg with pork
Wednesday - lots of veg with chicken
Thursday - date night - she has vegetarian or fishy options - he has steak - seems to keep the peace
Friday - anything we've not managed to finish during the week - today this meant a focus on brussel sprouts & root mash
Saturday - bottom of the fridge omelet with flatbread
Sunday - some sort of Sunday 'roast' or bake with lots of roasted veg
lunches - his are sourced from home & involve pies/quiches/slices - hers are veg or soup or salad from the subsidized work cafe but only a max of three times a week - rest of the time it's an apple & some miso soup (cheap, cheerful & light)
bf - couple of cups of coffee or tea

we've got out of the habit of being creative & keep it simple with mostly steamed veg & bbq'd protein

as soon as OH retires he'll be on cooking duty & I look forward to some 'real' cooking again!

until then I live vicariously through your creativity!:D

  • Good Morning :hello:

Well, I suppose the scoreline was what was required, but not much inspiring footwork about. Although I'll concede that there was much less passing of the ball as if it was a hot potato. Those on the ball did actually look as though they wanted to play, and you know, move it forwards. Goal ward. Scotland played well. We were far from convincing and I'm sure Tuesday will be a different matter. If we go back to playing as we have, we'll be trounced.

Pizza was munched. A cheese laden pizza is rarely a 'looker', but it tasted nice :D DH really liked the smell (as it was cooking) and the taste of the smoked cheese. I saw it 'proper' price in m&$ t'other day - £2.50 for 150g. I suspect it will be a long time afore we have it again, unless i spot a yellow sticker :(Funnily enough, m&$ f00dall was virtually empty yesterday lunchtime. The usual gathering spots of the 'dyne inn' sections were bereft of folks weighing chickens in their minds...... the 'biggest' crowd was at the ys'd section. It was a little bit elbows out..... I walked away. I'm not that needy of tuppence happenny knocked off......

    Picture of us tea;

    005_zpsnhaxa8lj.jpg

As I say, no looker, but delivered on taste.

The kala chana is on soaking for a curry tonight. I'm disappointed to report that there was more left than I thought :( In fact, there is as much again as I put on to soak :( I'm sure kala chana breeds when you ain't looking :(:rotfl:I'll gather together all my existing and new aubergine curry recipes and pick one to have.

Right, best shift a tail feather. There is breakfast to be had. And hopefully I can get up the high street early enough to be at the hairdressers somewhere near the front of the queue.

Lots if bitty household chores to attend to today. Hopefully it means we can escape to take a sandwich for a walk tomorrow :D

Ta for popping in, reading and impressing me with your meal-plans :D All good. All appreciated :D

  • RT beat me too it - nowt wrong with a pizza wearing THAT much cheese! :D (I can always sprinkle some bacon on the top top make it MrEH-friendly!)

We're listening to the rugby on the radio here. Think last time I listened to a rugby match on the radio might have been the World Cup 2003 - I was driving and nearly crashed the car when Jonny kicked that drop-goal! :rotfl:

Also with you on the thing of not being in need enough of YS'd stuff to get into a scrap for it, these days. I do grab bits that appeal., as i see them, but quite often they are the bits that others around here wouldn't bother getting their elbows out for.

  • Good Evening :hello:

Well, have I been on a whirly-gig of the most boring-est chores ever this weekend, and a nice little trip out today, with a sandwich, to see how far it was :D

Tea last night was indeed a curry plate. I guess that I'm going to win the 'brownest plate of food' award for November :( Even allowing for colour variation on the camera/screen, it wasn't appealing on the eye :( However, as I've said numerous times before, it tasted ok. In fact, purely by luck, I cooked 2 curries that were different but complementary :D I cooked Yotam's Aubergine Pahi (scroll down to recipe No. 2), which I would put in the savoury/tangy category and i used some of the remaining kala chana to make my 'chickpea' version of chicken chasni - which is a Scottish curry :D I always use natural yoghurt, rather than cream in my curry, and passata rather than tomato ketchup, but it's still a sweet-ish curry. A perfect foil to the pahi. Definitely not a looker of a plate though....

    010_zpsxqlfmamh.jpg

Our walk today was perfect. The countryside, virtually to ourselves - we saw 2 dog-walkers, and the dogs were on leads and perfectly behaved, and 3 other walkers, 2 of whom said hello, one of whom didn't. Oh, and 2 joggers too - who both said hello, even though they'd obviously been running a while and were a little puffed! :D We found a wonderful spot to munch our lunch - everyone was replete ;) We've got some nice pics to remember the day, and look back over progress. We called in on the gardening and non-gardening parentals on the way home. They oohed and ahhed over Baby Greying and we got a cup of tea and a kittykatty chocolate biscuit. WIN :D

As we were going out for the day, participants at the Rememberance parade were disbanding. Great to see so many young people had obviously been involved, and whilst I knew that our 3 forces had cadet units, it was a revelation to me that the police now have a cadet unit. They did used to have them, it was a way into the force, and was paid. But now it appears to be voluntary. Perhaps it too affords you special consideration if you choose that as a career path. The young people looked very good together anyway. On Friday, I had taken several moments to be quiet with BG at 11am, I can't claim that it was wholly successful..... however, it struck me that should they decide on a path into the forces, they may make the ultimate sacrifice - given that equality legislation bars no-one from serving on the front line. Every mother's nightmare, I am sure.

    195_zpsrfmw1d1z.jpg

It was apparently a french woman who came up with the idea of using a poppy as a symbol to raise money for injured soldiers. In future conflict, will it be soldiers that are injured? Will wars be fought from control desks, in far away places. Who will support civillian casualties. How many petals would fall to mark their sacrifice? I suspect the hall would be full to overflowing.........

We are going to have tea 'out of the freezer' tonight. It will be based on the leftover pasta bake, and any veg that I can shove on the plate :D

I will change the menu-planner around - I'm now thinking that buddha bowl can stay on 'Thursday' and 'outta the freezer' is a better bet for Sunday. Monday's will be 'Bake'.

The non-gardening parental pressed a £5iver into my hand for BG's saving account. That will mean a walk up the high street tomorrow :D We will go on our way to the food bank. I have decided to buy a bag each week to put the milk cartons in. Currently, I can afford one out of the budget. I am choosing to go with the h3ron f00ds 'bag for life', as it is apparently reuseable (quite strong actually), will be replaced for free and is made from sustainable materials. OK, it's still plastic, so I'm sure it isn't perfect, but perhaps it is a step in the right direction?

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

Baby Greying - such a blessing in our lives

Duty - so proud of those young people today

Volunteers - we couldn't have had our lovely walk, photo opportunities and sit down for our picnic had it not been for their hardwork :D:j

Thanks for popping in and reading. I greatly appreciate it.

  • Good Morning :hello:

I'm listening to the bidding for restaurant '*packages* on R2, raising money for children in need. Not entirely sure that there is much on offer for veggies, but my goodness, the food sounds delicious - and I'm sure that all participants will have lots of fun. I would bid if I had the pennies, no doubt about it :D

So, back to pedestrian-ville :rotfl: I'm going to make veggie scrapple for tea tonight. Now, before mrsinvisible points out, that it is necessary to make this in 2 stages - which is RIGHT - I am going to try to see what it tastes like as simply a 'bake'. I appreciate that everything tastes better fried, and meat-eaters will tell me that everything is better with bacon :D But I want to try an un-fried version, as, after all, any remainders can be frozen, and then fried for the 'proper' version :D WIN

Lawks, R1ck A$tley is on the radio now. Blast. Past. All I can say :D

A walk up the high st. for baby banking and a wander across to the community hub for food banking is on the cards today :D

I forgot to mention that I am now a woman in possession of some frozen avocado halves! :D DH was despatched to find them on Saturday, and came back victorious! :D I'm scouring for recipes to make best use of them :D

Right, off to start the chore list. :D

:rotfl::rotfl: LOVING all your :D's there Greying! :T

Looking forward to seeing what you make with the avocado halves - I'm still not entirely convinced but happy to be converted! Just googled Scrapple - it rang a bell but I couldn't *quite* remember - so kinda like meatloaf then, except in your case meat"less" loaf? I wonder whether the reason for the frying is to add some texture, as much as anything else, to what might otherwise be a touch "claggy"? Chicken Chasni also sounds ace - I'm a fan of those sorts of curries that are cooked in the "traditional" onion/garlic/ginger paste as a base.

Also listened to the R2 auction this morning - definitely NOT one for the veggies, agreed, but that first one - Tom Kerridge and the Spanish chap, with Mary Berry...wow! Looking forward to finding out how much they all went for as I left the car a few minutes before the bids closed.
On Friday, I had taken several moments to be quiet with BG at 11am, I can't claim that it was wholly successful..... however, it struck me that should they decide on a path into the forces, they may make the ultimate sacrifice - given that equality legislation bars no-one from serving on the front line. This bit spoke to me. I have several close friends in the RAF, and it is incredibly hard on family and friends when they are posted away at all, but to anywhere vaguely "near the action" is obviously worse. I asked one very close friend at one point how his Mum felt about him being in, and the situations he had been in - as a single man he was generally at the front of the queue to put himself forwards for serving in fairly "active" spots, hence he's spent more than his fair share of time in Afghan, Libya etc. He said that generally speaking she tries to not think too much about it - with ONE exception, and that was when he voiced an interest in Volunteering for Bomb Disposal work... Bearing in mind the statistics for those involved in that, not only can I totally understand her feelings, but am very grateful for them, too. His role is one of those that is "dangerous" on a daily basis (although less so now his rank is higher) but you do indeed learn not to think *too* much about the risks involved. Doesn't change the fact that when you DO think about them, it's scary as hell, though.
