Great news on progress on the challenges there Greying - but flipping cheek of Mr Greying telling you you need to save that £10 back when his poor research nearly cost you an extra £57 the other day, if you don't mind me saying so! :D

It's soup weather again isn't it. Not at all surprised you've gone down that line if the weather with you is anything like we have here!

    Hi Greying

please don't beat yourself up about a convenience purchase. It's up to us how we spend our money and time and I think time is the more valuable of the two :)

Ha Ha, dearest EH - thank you for leaping to my defence! However, whilst that is what he said, what I haven't conveyed in my writing it down is the tone in which he said it, which was actually much more supportive than how I made it sound - Guilty as charged! He was with me when we bought the microwave, and could see both sides, ie, we were there, pick it off the shelf, pay, go. But also knows (in hindsight) how notionally 'close' the other shop is. However, when you factor in we had BG with us, it was raining, and we would realistically have had to move the car from where we were (microwaves are pretty heavy things when you start carrying them for more than several steps, I've found), round several mini roundabouts and into a different car parking section.....I think he just said it to make me feel better - in that I 'lost' £10 on this, but I could gain £10 on the next purchase.

But thanks for your support EH - you're so kind :D:T

And I have started doing my research for the next purchase :D

I forgot to say, I did manage to get some basmati rice in mrS yesterday for my 'target' price of £1 a kilo. Had to buy a 10 kilo bag though, which is not a problem from useage point of view, but I'll have to see if I can manage the 'investment' out of my grocery money, or whether my 'bulk' buys budget heading goes £10 further into the red. I'm hopeful I can absorb it.

Well, we've been out and about today. Necessary appointment, enjoyment of the library, reduced/YS shopping and a picnic at a local heritage spot :j Not too shabby. i hope that the Lancastrian strawberries that I bought reduced for 70p from m&$ are luverly - there were punnets and punnets of them. 400g normal price £2. Crazy weather to blame I guess. The library in the town where we went is great. I raided the cookbook shelves again! :D I was somewhat surprised to see that the books that i borrowed last time were back on the shelf. I returned them to my local library (you're allowed to do that), and thought they might have taken the opportunity to do a bit of stock rotation. Never mind, I've got sufficient literary 'fodder' to keep me going. Even if I don't copy out a SINGLE recipe!!! :rotfl:

Right, I had better get and have a ganders at this recipe, as it is new to me and I don't want to get caught out with missing ingredients or find out I was supposed to put something on to soak last night....... :rotfl:

Ta for popping in and being so supportive. I suppose I'm getting twitchy at spending money so 'freely' and don't want to get reckless - we've saved too hard to do that. I am possibly being a little hard on myself. But do you ever think in terms of, £10 could buy.... or I have to work X hours to earn £Y......?

Sounds like you definitely made the right decision about the microwave Greying - they are indeed very heavy (as I know to my cost as I shifted ours from one area to another last weekend - and swiftly realised Mr Cheery had left a cold cup of tea in there, which ended up all down my front...)

I do indeed think '£10 could buy...' quite a lot. Although now I'm not in dire straights like I once was, what I think that about has changed... So I'll happily spend a bit extra on something I was going to buy anyway if, say, I'm on my way home from somewhere and it's late, or soaking wet, or I'm tired or already carrying heavy things. But some things I just won't pay for and would rather go without. Mr Cheery refuses to ever pay more than £1.50 for a cup of tea, and I confess sometimes I would happily pay an extra £1 if it meant I got to sit down half an hour earlier... :o:o :rotfl:
