Push starting a car

I left the interior light on last night so I was only wondering if the car didn't start would I be able to push start the car as I've never had a car where you had to hold the clutch pedal down.Strider590 wrote: »It's that time of year again chaps.......
Unless your desperate to use the car, just fit a new battery. Your probably going to need one anyway and if you bump it now, it'll only fail you as the cold weather sets in.0 -

Well, it was a flat road and I was a LOT younger
It would've been about 30-35 years ago

Unfortunately, the first time I forgot to switch the ignition on. So I had to push the damn thing back UP that mild gradient for a second attempt...
Snap!
I had an old Cherokee with a dead flat battery, so I intended to flip the ignition on just as it got upto speed to drop the clutch, except I forgot to flip it on
That was when I learned that if a car won't start on the starter, you never push it downhill away from your drive, you jumpstart it or fix the starter motor
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Bring back starting handles.
not so easy with an engine that sits across the car, the wheels get in the way.:T
You could get something like a Jumping Jack to carry around, they turn over most small cars. Used one on DD's car that's sat around for 2 years and started first time. Didn't do it again though as the battery was knackeredI'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Jump packs aren't terribly useful if it's the starter itself that's died, though, and you'd quite like to drive home...peter_the_piper wrote: »You could get something like a Jumping Jack to carry around, they turn over most small cars.
