Good areas of Hull, Grimsby?

While I understand none of these places have very good reputation of being good :p, can someone please advise comparatively good locations in these towns?

This for buying a small house for letting. I just want a reasonably decent location.

Thanx

:)

In the towns themselves or would you be willing to move out say to Laceby near Grimsby or Paull near Hull? There are some beautiful villages around the general area of both. Xxx

Not really relevant as the OP won't be living in the house.

The Avenues in Hull is pretty good (my best friend lives there). But if you're buying for letting it may not be ideal as the higher purchase price may not be reflected in the rent you'll achieve. If you don't live in the area then I question the wisdom of buying there at all.
  • I have a friend who rents a flat near the banks of the humber, close to victoria park. A few minutes walk from 'The Deep'.

Seems a pleasent area (only been there a couple of times myself but she has no complaints). Mostly modern builds, riverside walks, young professionals/families. Maybe a 20 minute walk into town.

I live near London - everything is way out of my budget places surrounding me :(

If you are looking for student lets..many areas around the Avenues, Cottingham, if professionals, Victoria Dock close to city centre, good area....Swanland, Kirk Ella, Market Weighton, Hedon and the villages on the way to Withernsea...a very wide range of properties.

Bit harsh on those who do buy in Hull (I'd probably agree about Grimsby though ).

If you want cheap prices in reasonable areas then go for these places in east Hull:-
Garden Village, Sutton on Hull, Sutton-Ings (the area north of East Park).
Avoid any of the council estates.

I bought a terraced house in Alliance Avenue in 2000 for £15,000. Loved living there (Spring Bank West end not Anlaby Road end). Sold it in 2006 for £75,000.

Lived in Hull from 18 to 38 years old and had a fantastic time there.

I lived in De La Pole Ave when I was a student (1979 - 81), it wasn't a bad area although the house I rented was a bit ropy. Probably would have made a good fixer-up had people thought about such things as much in those days.
