Moving home, changing phone/broadband but keeping number

Hi,
We are currently with BT but not tied into any deal. We are moving house soon, hopefully in the next month and want to keep our number (it is on the same exchange). If we were happy with BT, we'd stay with them when we move house, but there are better deals out there.
Can we just ring up/order online from a new supplier or do we need to tell BT that we are moving (and pay the fee) and then change supplier once we have moved? Will BT tie us into a contract? We are currently on standard broadband but want to switch to superfast.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

You simply order with new supplier and they then sort it out with your current supplier0

Number portability is really for keeping your number when you change provider at your current address, a change if address will complicate things...if you can get an acceptable deal from BT then you could move and use the BT home mover service , keeping your current number, if they cannot offer you a deal you deem acceptable , change provider at your current address first, then use that company's equivalent home mover service ( if the have one) , that way you should be able to have your existing number at the new address,
If you move home, ask a new company for service at the new address and ask them to try and get your number from your old address don't be surprised if they fail and just give you a new number
If you stick with BT , you will start a new minimum term contract at the new address, but if you use a new supplier at your new address, that would mean a minimum term with them, so it shouldn't really be an issue, you will start a new deal regardless of provider at your new address0
