  • If you know how a single man gets a three-bedroom place, please let me know
    .

Crazy ! but he could be single and have 4 kids, under Housing Benefit rules if he states (or in some cases lies) that he gets the kids on weekends, he can claim H B for a property which would normally be classed as over occupancy . In theory you could have a couple staying a few streets away from each other and both stay in 3 bed houses, both could be claiming Housing Benefit. Some councils may ask to see a legal custody agreement .
  • - there ARE houses in my LA that you need no points for - 2 and 3 bedroom. Anyone on the Council list can have them. If you want to live on a boarded-up estate amongst the muggers, drug addicts, prostitutes and rats, then that's fine. I wonder why none are taken? Maybe the houses the OP referes to are in this category?)

The town I operate in has recently seen a spate of people turning up at council offices declaring themselfs " homeless " many will have incurred rent arrears and have come from private rented property, they arrive with their "NOTICE TO QUIT" others are fed up renting from dodgy Landlords and want their own secure place, (of course) and believe they will jump the Q . In fact the council don't have any decent property to offer, remember Maggie flogged them all ! ( well the cream ) New rules in Scotland don't allow long term " bed & breakfast " anymore, the council have been forced to rent around 170 properties from private registered Landlords to meet the demand , they are allocated one of these properties in the short term, ultimately they will be offered a !!!!!! hole seven-day-weekend describes ,they move to one of these areas but, no one will want to remain in these dumps, GUESS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Most go back to private rented property !
