I have a friend who as been on the council house waiting list for 5 years with Bolsolvor council and as heard nothing only updates to say what points he as.
Now houses are monthly coming up in the area but he gets offered nothing. And he as local connections, but outsiders keep getting given the houses, even single blokes given 3 bedroomed council houses.
Anyone know ways to fill forms in properly for decent point scores?
regards
Daz
p.s - She is in a desperate state for an house.

What do you mean by houses are coming up monthly? and how do you know that these are council houses that are "coming up"
I very much doubt that a single bloke has been given a 3 bedroom house if there are peopl "desperate" for a house.
How do you know about these blokes? how do you know they are single? how do you know the places they have move dinto are council houses?
Fill in a form properly but reading and answering the question, the only way to get a more "decent score" is to lie, which is you friend is in a desperat need she shouldnt need to.0 -
sun69uk,
Not in Bolsover, but would contact the local Citizens Advice and make an appointment as they are most likely to know the local foibles in terms of who is getting what and on what grounds (and/or a local housing charity if such a thing exists there).
Also, my aunt was in your friend's situation and got her place from a Housing Authority. We had been to the council, together, who told her that there was no point in visiting the Housing Trusts as the council was the body allocating the houses and everything came through them. They also told her that it would take two+ years. This turned out to be completely wrong and the Trust allocated her a one bedroom flat and told the council of their decision, within 6 months. Although the council was in overall charge, the trust had special dispensations for disabled people, people over 50 etc.
Bolsover has a list of local housing associations on its website at:

I know the house`s are coming up by talking to people who live in the village concerned, We do communicate in Derbyshire you know.
I know everyone in the villages, folk i dont know proberbaly aint worth knowing.
I know there coucil becouse council just done all new windows in there properties. the ones with old windows still in are the private houses.... its easy aint it?
Did i say shes going to lie????? no, just maybe she aint put a unknown scoring point down, and it was 5 years ago she filled the form in maybe form pointings as changed.....
Anythng else Mel you want to query, ?0 -
Tell her to get herself pregnant! That seems to do the trick with my council. People who have been on the housing list for years are overlooked in favour of 16 and 17 year old girls who have deliberately got themselves up the duff just to get a house. It's a disgrace.0

how small is this village for you to know which houses are council, private, council but rented out, been bought off th ecouncil etc?
I take it its a very small village for you to know everyone.
Even privately owned properties (ie.a flat in a council block) could have had their windows changed at the same time they would just have had to pay the council for it. (not so easy!)
I didnt say she was going to lie either.
If things have changed then i suggest she informs the council.
Thats all.0 -
Why so nasty to Melissa? She is just asking questions to clarify what you have written!
Where is your friend living at the moment? I assume she is not classed as homeless?
Is your friend willing to live in any council property, or has she limited where she would accept a property?Gone ... or have I?0 -
if she's desperate you put her up.
look she's obviously not on the top priority list regardless of how long she's been on it, every year there may be another 10 people who come on who are in proper need, ie the little 16 yerar old chavettes, etc so she gets put back down the list.
and leave melissa alone, have you not seen her tatties?0 -
Ah, council list. I have (for the first time) received a letter asking me to claify I am still looking for somewhere and to keep me on the list. Now we have been on the list for 8 years (8 points), have a boy and girl (5 points) and have local connections (50 points). They are currently housing people who have more than 110 points and most people work on this basis. because I live with my mum it is a non-secure tenancy and I have been awared another 10 points for this, oh and I am married and hubby is here of course. So our total for being on the list is 73 points.
My sister and her boyfriend have been on the list for around 2 years, they have more points than us (which really annoys me and if they get housed before us I'll not be impressed), god knows how they got more points as they have no kids but they do live apart and are not married - if they wanted to they could easily afford a basic one bedroom/studio flat (in my opinion) but one of his relatives has told them that they need to get onto the council - it seems to be that being on the list is a right regardless. As they are low income they would get help with the rent but they are taking up a space ahead of us on the list as they think they need a council place.
Anyhow, if your friend is desparate then maybe she neds to get in contact with the council and ask them to help with a private tenancy, this will mean that if she cannot afford it, they will pay the depsoit for her and then she will get help with her rent - if she can afford a private place then her need is not for a council place. If someone is living in overcrowded accomodation then they get more points for this, as with the same as the other items I mentioned above - if she has told the council of her situation then she is clearly not desparate - if she needs housing they will give it to her, albeit it temporary (ie. hostel or B&B). If she does not want either of these as an option to getting her first step on the ladder she is not desperate. The hostel I lived in was fab, own kitchen, bathroom and underfloor heating and cheap rent - not all of them are the same so send her back to the council and explain some more face to face.
An old friend chose to sell her house, squander the proceeds on rubbish and then when the tenancy was up on her rented home went to the council expecting to get a 3 bedroom house. They told her it would be a minimum 10 year waiting list which she was very angry about, and she went back into the Private Sector (paid for by the council!!).
My sister was told that if she wanted somewhere quicker she had to get pregnant or not be English. That was from the woman at the council housing department apparently.
As I said, most councils operate the same way but I had an email only last week after I updated my details and they gave me this information because I asked for it. Although the council hold the waiting list it is the Housing Associassion (sp. sorry) that allocate the houses. We do not have enough points by a long shot and we have been waiting 8 years (hence having 8 points), at this rate it is going to be a long wait!!
If the council in your area are giving 3 bedroom houses to these men it would be because nothing else is available and they have a need for it, otherwise it doesn't happen. If their need is greater than that of your friend then they will take priority but it is very unusual that they would give a 3 bedroom house to a single man.
Oh and I live in a village and yes, you do know all of the houses that are council. A lot are also being done up at the moment and you can tell by then work that is eing done on the houses, I know a lot of the people as well - that is what happens when you have been living in the same place for a long time. Villages tend to have a lot of the older families and they have generations of them and this is how you get to know everyone - especially if you work locally as well!!0 -
ust to add on from this - there is no 'proper' way to fill out the forms, you tell the truth on what you need. I am not sure if the housing is for a he or she as you use both terms in your post, but either way, they will come around and check if you are in urgent need so beware if telling porkies on the forms. Also, if it is a single person that is desperate for accomodation, can they not get a room in lodgings and then as I posted before, get help with the rent from the council if they are on a low income? As I said, I have been in many a situation and as a single person they offered to pay my deposit when I was being made homeless at 28 but I decided to come home (to mummy, LOL) and she has not been able to get rid of me since and we have since multiplied and we have been waiting for 8 years now!!0

2. 16 yo "up the duff" chavs aren't likely to get 3 bed council houses, despite what you read in the papers.
The only way IMHO to get this sorted is to go and see someone at the council to go through their application and make sure everything that could be on there is accounted for. Even having taken everything into account, and how the council works its housing lists, a single man of working age isn't going to score very highly (again IMHO). Like Melissa says, I doubt very much if a single man would be offered a 3 bed council house. I would think it much more reasonable and likely that he would be offered a one bed flat and he would also have to be very careful about turning it down. I think we only have half the story here.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
