Abusive and threatening calls from Accident and Advice Helpline

Hi,

I have been receiving lots of calls on my mobile and parents home phone from a company purportedly called "Accident and Advice Helpline".

Initially I received a call from a company claiming that I had £5000 in compensation listed as unclaimed on an insurance database and they would help me claim it. I asked why my insurance company would not have done this for me already and he said that the insurance companies do not want customers to know about it and try to hide this special compensation from their customers. It was a lengthy call with all the usual spiel and when I informed him that I was not actually sitting in the car when the accident happened and was obviously unhurt he promptly hung up without any explanation.

I then started receiving calls from a company and the young lad sounded incredibly bored and was obviously reading from a script. He was very abrupt and was talking to me as if I was some kind of idiot. He was asking me to confirm whether I was involved in an accident. I said that I was not interested and hung up.

Then I start to receive calls from a company called Accident and Advice Helpline and he stated that they are linked to Esure. Basically it is probable that Esure sold my contact details to this company after I made a claim through Esure for a non-fault accident some months ago as the calls started after the claim had been settled.

Like all of the previous callers he sounded young and had a Birmingham accent. This made me suspicious of any calls that had a young lad speaking with that accent because of all of the previous calls of this nature. He asked me if I had been receiving lots of nuisance calls from companies saying that I had an amount of unclaimed compensation. He said he would explain why I was receiving these calls. I stated that I was not interested and he became quite pushy and rude, asking why I am not interested to which I hung up.

I believe that all of the previous calls are linked in some elaborate scheme to make the last company to call "Accident and Advice Helpline" seem legit, especially when they claim they are linked to Esure. When you ask them not to call again they become very argumentative and abusive. He told me to F-off and said that my mother was a prostitute who he regularly sleeps with. I get calls from them several times a day and have blocked all of the numbers that look suspiciously as if they are from this company. I am now however receiving lots of consecutive calls from an unknown number.

Linked numbers are:
0208 416 2301
0203 889 8478
0121 794 9399
0208 416 3080

Most of the young male callers have a Birmingham accent, but the abusive calls are from the same guy. They are even calling my mothers home phone which was on my contact details when I was with Esure. It seems that now they are calling purely for spite and to harass me and my family.

This is making it very difficult to know when to answer my phone from callers who are not already friends and family and in my phone contacts. It also make it impossible to receive calls from companies that have my personal number and are calling to discuss important matters.

Does anyone know what can be done to stop this from happening? I would rather not change my mobile phone number and it is essential that my mother and father do not have to change their home number as it has been established with my fathers self employed business for over 30 years and many of his contacts use it to contact him.

Apologies for the long story, but I thought it best to explain all of the details.

I just find it disgusting that scam companies can run wild with this sort of thing without anyone being able to do anything about it.

Thanks! :)

Call esure and report it, besides that when I used to get these calls I would threaten them with the most imaginable violent acts I could wish upon their families and children- they soon stopped.

My latest tactic is to bait them by telling them I had twelve passengers in my car (quite why they believe this, I don't know, but they do) at the time of the non-existent accident, and then I list as many gruesome and improbable injuries until they get it's a wind up and they are usually apologetic about my circumstances and tell me they ring back later - which they never do.

I prefer the scam calls from abroad, though. I usually chat up the worker and tell them that I knew from the first moment they spoke that they were gay and they sound very attractive - since these call centres are in quite homophobic places, this usually results in an interesting barrage of swearing, insults and protestations. Stops them from ringing back as well.

I recently got the of virus Microsoft call to a line at work (400+ PC's in the building) strung the fool out for as long as possible as loudly as I could so my colleagues could join in the fun. By the time I threatened to "bum him to death" they were crying with laughter. I see these calls as sport.

Me too, I love stringing them along. I got the MS one a few weeks ago, strung him along for a good 20 minutes, playing thick, until he deduced from my garbled descriptions that my computer was actually an Apple ( it's not really, but it was fun to hear his response :) )

Is it Accident Advice Helpline? Your posts state Accident and Advice Helpline, but the fax number for AAH looks very similar to one of the numbers you've posted above.

If you can get them to tell them the name of the law firm they will be refering you too, you can get them into lots of trouble as it's illegal for law firms to solicit business by cold calling
  • It was my mother that noted the name of the company so it may well be "Accident Advice Helpline"... Are they a known firm?

Thanks for your feedback guys. :)

Calls dropped off in the afternoon so hopefully they got bored, but we shall see. :)
