can you suggest what ii can do which will not cost to much as wish to get rid of the issue and seal the units to avoid them coming in to the flat
Mouse traps, Seal just the holes the mice or rats are coming from and not the units so look at the walls and pipework to seal up properly, Failing this then you need a professional in and if the problems is from another flat they also need it addressing to otherwise you will be fighting a losing battle here.0 -

Seal just the holes the mice or rats are coming from (Which is best sealer for this ?~) as not to ofay and not a diy person0 -

Lets say you have a pipe coming through the wall with a gap around it, You should fill this properly ie render, Sand & cement mix as expanding foam is a short term measure that can be eaten through.
If it is the floor boards with a pipe coming through it then seal as best as possible ie concrete floor would be with render again and wooden floor I would suggest trying filling the area around the pipe with a flush rubber fitting of sorts.
You really do need to look everywhere when it is rodents as they can come in from the smallest places and as I said previously having the issue resolved as best you can in your flat will not solve this properly unless the other flat deals with it also in order to try and stop it to.0 -
I would suggest you first tackle problem at source. DIY solutions are available from Rentokil (and others) see here > http://www.rentokil.co.uk/rats/diy-products/ Place these used your units. Rentokil have a free help line 0808 250 1436
Fill the holes in floor and walls with foam http://www.screwfix.com/c/sealants-adhesives/expanding-foams/cat850108?cm_mmc=Bing-_-Sealants, Foam and Fillers - Generic-_-Foam - General Purpose-_-expanding foam filler_4a06d2d1-1a6e-42df-a0a8-1d6620349e8e&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Sealants, Foam and Fillers - Generic&utm_term=expanding foam filler&utm_content=Foam - General Purpose
You should remove dead rodents as they will smell and attract flies.
I would not seal the base boards as this will make it difficult to inspect for further infestation and may hide other issues like water leaks from sink."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

When we had mice, the pest control guy was quite cross that he couldn't remove the plinths in the kitchen (they were tiled by the previous owner) to check under the units. As others have said, fix the actual holes the rodents are getting in through rather than just preventing them getting further into the kitchen.
Rats and mice are quite happy to chew through most things, so if they're used to having free run of the kitchen and you seal them under the kitchen units, I bet they would give your units a good chew to try and get into or through them, which is more damage you don't want and they'll still get through eventually, and then you'll have to take out the foam/whatever you've used to fix the problem properly anyway. It's better just to fix the problem, then lay traps or poison under the units in case they manage to get back in. Removable plinths will allow you to check regularly for droppings or other signs of entry.0 -
If you're on any benefits you can get free pest control from you're local councilSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0

It's not the units that you want to seal, it's whever the little blighters are coming though from outside.
If you only seal the kickplates, they'll just climb up the service gap behind the units and into the cupboards that way. And then out of the cupboards.
Suggest you find the big thread about getting rid of rats and mice!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I would plug all the holes with lashings of grease. Rats and mice hate it. My work is on an industrial estate. It is a workshop with a wood built office attached to it. We had rats everywhere until we plugged the main ways in with grease and re-boarded one exterior panel. With no access to any food they steer clear now.0
